My Blood Glucose Was 1100 Yesterday
My Glucose Meter | 3/19/2019 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 03/19/2019 8:52:42 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Yesterday I measured my blood glucose when I was experiencing ravenous thirst. I would drink a quart of water, then on the last gulp, experience an intense thirst. I knew something was wrong.

I measured on the meter and it said "HIGH, OVER 600 mg/dL". It was too high for the meter.

I took 40 units of long-acting insulin and 50 units of a sliding-scale immediate-acting insulin, and in 4 hours I was at 460 mg/dL b/g. Based on how insulin is processed in my body, I extrapolate that at one point I was at 1,100 mg/dL b/g.

I felt death close by me.

I am so concerned about a thug or a government killing me, but the reality is I will die from disease. All my guns won't protect me from diabetes.

I’ve always pictured you dying at the ripe old age of 98 - shot in the back by a jealous husband...

In flagrante delicto.

Mine at 19 months. He was 849 when we first took him to the doc.

It’s something you manage, unfortunately.

Do take care and try to control your eating as much as possible and take your meds regularly to prevent disasters.

Best wishes.

I was a type-2 diabetic for years. Had bariatric bypass (duadenal switch) 2 years ago. Dropped the meds and sugars and A1C have been normal since. It was my diabetes doctor that directed me to the surgeon, and I feel I am alive now because of it...

Heya Laz, that is without a doubt the highest blood sugar level I ever heard of.

I’m a type 2 diabetic. I got too fat at one point in life, drank too much soda, got diabetes. No one else in my family had it.

The day I found out about it, I was taken out of the house with 435 sugar and was almost dead from vomiting all night and complete and total dehydration.

The only thing that I remember form the time before that occurrence was the thirst and the piss.

I would basically pour liquid into my mouth while peeing it out at the same time (slight exaggeration, but not much) and never, ever, EVER be able to quench that thirst.

Diabetes or my heart will kill me long before anything else.

My only goal is to outlive my three dogs. Once I see them off, I am going to ask the Good Lord if my time has come. If He says yes, then I go. If He says no, then I get more dogs.

Take care of yourself, Laz. I’m going to say a prayer for you. God bless.

Why are you posting instead of getting yourself to the hospital?

Ummm, dude .... that is in the coma range.

I Highly RECOMMEND that if your blood sugar goes above 300, that you consult your doc right away.

Fasting will help get your sugars down to far more manageable levels.

WOW!!!!!

I have pretty high BP and the fact that I won't take drugs for it drives my wife nuts but that 1100 is more serious that 170/110.

I have been type I for forty years, and have never had a reading that high. In fact, even when I was first diagnosed, my reading when I was admitted to the hospital was “only” somewhere in the 800s.

I am no doctor, but it sounds like your diabetes is out of control. Get it under control, with the help of a physician whose advice you take, immediately.

If you are not already doing so, test your blood sugar several times a day.
