90 people who have recently come down with pertussis — the official name for whooping cough — in Los Angeles County this year had been immunized against it, according to county officials.
It turns out that four years after someone receives the booster shot in about the seventh grade, the vaccine’s protection nearly vanishes, endangering high schoolers such as those at Harvard-Westlake, said Dr. James Cherry, a UCLA expert on pediatric infectious diseases.
“It is not surprising at all,” Cherry said of the recent cases.

If this is true, I would think that almost all adults would be susceptible to whooping cough, which doesn’t seem to be the case. Were the older vaccines better? Inquiring minds ....

Whooping cough itself is probably the very best “vaccine” to prevent future occurrences.

Like having measles? I do not remember whooping cough being a problem until last 10-20 years.
A Couple of years ago I came down with poly myaglia rheumatica, a crippling joint disease.
It was knocked out overnight with prednisone, a true miracle drug.
However prednisone does a job on your immune system and I came down with whooping cough.
With all the medications some of us older folks take, I suspect we are being made vulnerable to some unusual diseases. - Tom
Just got the 3-1 Tdap shot 2 weeks ago. First time I had any booster shot in over 25 years.
So did the elitist parents pay money for fake vaccination papers?
Did the school bring in some wonderful non legal kids to make it appear to be a good place to send your elitist kids to?

Vaccinations are not a magic spell. If you get exposed enough or your immune system is compromised, you might get it.

true, but the good news is that you will get it usually- almost always, far less severe- and likely survive-
I had it in just about every joint.
I couldn't chew my food, or lift my hands above my chest, or dress myself. I struggled to stand up after siting down,. It was a totally debilitating experience.
No signs of it after a year on prednisone and a graduall tapering off of the drug. - Tom
