Rebecca Alexanders worst experience dining while large happened just after she nailed a promotion at a nonprofit organization.
She took her staff, and her new boss, to lunch at a promising downtown restaurant in Portland, Ore., where she lives. As the hostess led the group to a booth, Ms. Alexander, a 31-year-old who wears a size 30, knew in an instant there was no way she was going to squeeze into it.
I remember having this out-of-body experience, she said. I watched myself sit down and try to get in even though I knew the space was too small, because I so needed it to fit. Defeated, she asked for a table. The hostess told her there would be a half-hour wait.
The cherry on top was that I got to be the reason we had to stand around for 30 minutes, she said.
For people who identify as large, plus-size or fat, dining out can be a social and physical minefield. Chairs with arms or impossibly small seats leave marks and bruises. Meals are spent in pain, or filled with worry that a flimsy chair might collapse.

She’s so fat that when she said I just haven’t seen her good side; I told her I didn’t have time to make the trip!
Agreed. I dropped 125 pounds over the last 7 years using the “Eat-less, move-more” diet. Went lower carb and eliminated as much refined food from my daily diet as possible. I occassionally splurge but have kept it off. It IS a daily struggle but it is worth it. I am Type 2 diabetic and my crappy lifestyle choices earlier in my life CONTRIBUTED to my disease but was not the sole cause of it. I STRONGLY encourage anyone battling excess weight to start fighting it now. Do not wait until it catches up with you.
MY two cents worth.
Truth is if you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight. Some people may store more glycogen then others thus it will take longer for them to hit their fat reserves. Just like if you use 11 gallons of gas per week and only put in 10 per week eventually you will run out of gas.
Got that right...
What a society we’ve become!
Bloated, drug-addicted, food-addicted, stuff-addicted, self-absorbed, self-righteous know-it-alls.
I had an appointment with my cardiologist coming up and knowing that he had a sense of humor (and preached loudly about bad diets) I took a photo of the defibrillator and the burger joint.
He liked it so much he said he wanted to put it on his desk...and he did!
everything you list you ate was high carb, high sugar, garbage foodstuffs. all that stuff as well produces cravings for more of it, and doesnt have a high fiber filling feeling, or protein satisfying long digest time, to keep you from shoveling more and more into your face.
its not rocket science why you were overweight.
you picked crap food thar was high calorie, high sugar, high carb that didnt stick around very long so you got hungry quicker.
it really is calories in, calories stored. because your body has to deal with all the damn sugar you inhaled quickly or else you will go into a diabetic coma and die. so it changes the sugads into fat.
I eat what I want but not in endless amounts. I watch how much, and how often. you can eat what you want but if you dont control portions and calories its no good. The problem you and most women have is they like sweets and high carb/sugar crap, which doesnt long term satisfy so they ignore their portions and eat way more calories, and get fat.
Many of these restaurants have meals with unbelievable calories. I had a Red Robin fantasy today. (this weather makes me want to eat stuff I don’t anymore). A top-of-the-line chocolate milk shake, a full size hamburger with toppings and fries would’ve added up to almost 2500 calories. If they’re going to feed people that much food, they should provide very large seats!

You cant beat the law.
Of thermodynamics.
thats the truth! I got a part time job at an Italian restaurant that I loved.
I came home on my 1st day and said “we can’t eat there anymore!!!” Only thing i ever ate were the breadsticks as they were brought in from somewhere else.
You go out for a swim, and they update the tide tables....
One national chain restaurant where I went in the last month, had this problem with each and every booth on their first level. Thankfully, there were a few tables with chairs available.
Being rather short myself, I feel as though I should ask for a booster chair, if Im seated at a booth, just to reach table height!
Actually the trick is to eat way way less carbs and more protein when eating out.
Read the book “Eat this not that” and it tells you the best places to eat! You’d be surprised what places are good and what are not.
Also avoid Chinese food! Yes you really are hungry one hour later and carbs are the reason why.
Rights do not require a moral claim on someone else.
Theft is when someone who has no moral claim to your money or stuff takes it from you.
An unpleasant experience can perform a vital function. It can lead to action tendencies, action implications, and motivational power that can lead to better health in the long run.
“Golden Corral needs to do that
Majority of their patrons are fat
At least where I live”
Is that way where is live too!
Majority of their food is carbs and sugars. When I do eat there I bypass all that! I ONLYgo for the roast beef and steak. I eat meat like a T Rex that way I’m not hungry later. In fact I’m not hungry till noon the next day.
Evidence is now clear. Obesity is a chronic hunger disorder that is almost impossible for most obese people to control. It is likely tied to the microbiome in the gut and fructose metabolism.
I am normal weight and have been for more than 10 years...but....keeping it normal requires minute by minute ( almost superhuman) conscious control. It is exhausting.
I am hopeful that effective treatment will soon be forthcoming.
The following are two talks. Sadly, those Freepers who are the cruelest in their comments towards the obese are the least likely to watch and listen.
This from the UCLA medical school on fructose metabolism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM
This is a TED talk about gut bacteria:

The only Chinese food that I actually like is Crab Rangoon aka cheese wonton.
A small bag is actually filling and doesn’t give me a migraine like most modern era food.
if they dont provide people with this amount of food they will say they arent getting their moneys worth.
and gave you ever heard of a ‘doggy bag?’ you dont have to eat everything in a single seating.
Mean people are such a pleasure....you for example. You probably laugh at people for crying when their child dies. Good for yoy, report me.
Also some freepers don’t understand that being overweight can be cause by health problems not just over eating. There are a vast number of Rx medications that cause weight gain or even obesity. However it’s either take those meds or die. People just assume that person is pigging out when they may be starving themselves because they are upset over what the meds are doing and still that big.
