Apple likes to tout its smartwatchs heart-tracking features as being able to potentially save a users life one day. But a man in Nimbin, New South Wales, Australia, may owe his life to his smartphone, which stopped an arrow fired by an assailant while he was trying to snap a photo.
According to the NSW Police Force, the victim pulled into his driveway on the morning of March 13, 2019, only to notice a man standing outside his property armed with a bow and arrow when he got out of his car. Thats not something you see every day, even in Australia, so police say he pulled out his phone to snap a photo of the archer when the armed man raised his bow and fired.
Instead of hitting the victim, the arrow pierced the back of the raised smartphone, leaving a sharp tip protruding a couple of inches through the devices display on the other side, and completely removing its screen protectorthe mans last line of defense. According to police, the only injury was a small laceration on the victims chin caused by the momentum of the arrows impact, which sent the phone flying into his face.
Authorities say the 39-year-old alleged attacker was arrested at the scene and charged with armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage. He was reportedly granted conditional bail and is set to appear in court next month.
As for the smartphone? Last we checked, arrow strikes arent typically covered under warranties.

Years ago, my mother gave me a bullet...a bullet, and I put it in my breast pocket. Two years after that, I was walking down the street, when a berserk evangelist heaved a Gideon bible out a hotel room window, hitting me in the chest. Bible would have gone through my heart if it wasn't for the bullet
More than one GI was saved by the bulletproof properties of the Zippo cigarette lighter.
Maybe the archer didnt want to hit him...but just didnt want his pitcure take n.
A stranger shoots an arrow at a homeowner, and he walks away on bail? Bad decision!
The second half of the story is missing.
Motivation? Remarks made by Archer? Did they know each other?
Has he threatened others in this manner? Did other neighbors notice the guy waiting at a house he did not occupy?
Maybe the Reporter was only a part-time worker.
His shift was up.
My father in law told me a thick as a brick and just as hard Hershey’s D-bar candy bar in his shirt pocket saved his life from a German bullet.
Like Travon Martin, the archer was attempting murder
Given that it took place in Australia I’m guessing alcohol was involved.
Now that is a 3D camera.
[The Archer] is no longer Robin of Loxley, but Robin in da ‘Hood.
hard Hersheys D-bar candy bar
He said they were just a tad bit tastier than a boiled potato. But if you had nothing to eat and starving, it was better than grass.
Ban arrows!!!
Still good advice if you carry emergency supplies in your car. Any food should be barely edible. If it tastes good it will be gone when you really need it.
