The United States will no longer fly the Boeing 737 Max 8 and Max 9 after an Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed Sunday shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa, killing all 157 people on board.
President Trump said he was grounding them flights from both models - 'effective immediately' - on Wednesday afternoon.
Any plane that is currently in the air will be allowed to land and then they will be grounded until further notice, he said.
Trump said he made the decision after following a with Elaine Chao, the transportation secretary, after new information emerged on the tragic crash.

My understanding, and it is only from some stuff I scanned, is that to fit the new engines, they had to mess with the front to back balance, necessitating a system that would help the pilot prevent stalls.
Which suggests they made it unstable.
Reminds me of the space shuttle. It is flown by computer. If they actually tried to “stick and rudder” it, it would be impossible for a human being to keep it from crashing.
If I read it correctly, there is a weight problem after you use up fuel.
A reasonable guess is that the center of gravity changes enough to make it unstable.
Overregulation. Amateur Ethiopian pilots. The co-pilot had only 200 flight hours experience. FAA requires 1500 hours to be a commercial pilot in this country.
Wow ... that's big of them.
Would Obama do that? Huh?
“President Trump said he was grounding them flights...”
AOC on this news: “I applaud President Trump for his vision in beginning to implement the Green New Deal. Come on, President Trump, just bring ,em all down now,”
Yes, if you use up too much fuel you can't get the damn things down.
Well, that’s mighty generous. :/
Ping!
I thought the two crashes happened immediately after take-off (?). If so, they would have been fully loaded with fuel.
You don’t get it? Its in case some other country had one in the air over the US. Poorly worded means you may react the way you did.
Once they run out of gas they just stall. It's a huge problem to get people up there to refuel the planes so that they can properly land.
[ Any plane that is currently in the air will be allowed to land ]
So, no refueling receptacles, eh? (j/k)
The major issue, in my opinion, is TRAINING, something the US airlines have down. Boeing pushed the envelope, trying to keep this as a plug-and-play airplane for airlines already operating 737s, and compete against the Airbus NEOs, Without having to add a new type certificate and new training programs, all VERY EXPENSIVE, things to do, requiring separate pilot pools, maint programs, etc.
Operating separate types in the US is like running an airline within an airline.

It's good that there aren't that many flying. Thanks C19fan.
