Some freeper stated the Boeing 737 Max is an inherently unstable plane due to design changes from previous Boeing 737s. That is why the plane relies so heavily on a a computer to fly straight. I understand many military planes are designed to be unstable so they can perform high G maneuvers on a dime or for reasons of the airframe is maximized for stealth. Are there other commercial jets with a design flaw like this?

My understanding, and it is only from some stuff I scanned, is that to fit the new engines, they had to mess with the front to back balance, necessitating a system that would help the pilot prevent stalls.

Which suggests they made it unstable.

Reminds me of the space shuttle. It is flown by computer. If they actually tried to “stick and rudder” it, it would be impossible for a human being to keep it from crashing.

If I read it correctly, there is a weight problem after you use up fuel.

A reasonable guess is that the center of gravity changes enough to make it unstable.

Overregulation. Amateur Ethiopian pilots. The co-pilot had only 200 flight hours experience. FAA requires 1500 hours to be a commercial pilot in this country.

Any plane that is currently in the air will be allowed to land ...

Wow ... that's big of them.

"Any plane that is currently in the air will be allowed to land"

Would Obama do that? Huh?

Yes, if you use up too much fuel you can't get the damn things down.

Here's a good presentation of the "problem" systems on the plane:

FAA vs. the rest of the world

I thought the two crashes happened immediately after take-off (?). If so, they would have been fully loaded with fuel.

You don’t get it? Its in case some other country had one in the air over the US. Poorly worded means you may react the way you did.

Once they run out of gas they just stall. It's a huge problem to get people up there to refuel the planes so that they can properly land.

So, no refueling receptacles, eh? (j/k)

The major issue, in my opinion, is TRAINING, something the US airlines have down. Boeing pushed the envelope, trying to keep this as a “ plug-and-play” airplane for airlines already operating 737’s, and compete against the Airbus NEO’s, Without having to add a new type certificate and new training programs, all VERY EXPENSIVE, things to do, requiring separate pilot pools, maint programs, etc.

Operating separate types in the US is like running an airline within an airline.

I think it would drastically increase fuel efficiency if they just sent them up with empty tanks to begin with!

It's good that there aren't that many flying. Thanks C19fan.
