"Captain Marvel" star and hardcore feminist Brie Larson has been a leader in Hollywood talks concerning the anti-sexual harassment and sexism campaign known as "Time's Up," which piggybacked off the #MeToo movement. Since fall 2017, Larson has led discussions about sound guys putting on actors' mics in the context of the movement and said she now mics herself up and advises all other actress to do the same.
"In the fall of 2017, in the weeks after the first Harvey Weinstein stories broke, Larson and her female acting peers began texting one another and having conversations about workplace concerns, from issues like pay equity to how to deal with the discomfort of a sound man reaching inside your bra to pin a microphone," reported The Hollywood Reporter in a glowing February interview.
"When it comes to pay, Larson seems to be doing OK she'll make $5 million for playing Captain Marvel in this film as part of a deal that bests what Robert Downey Jr. made for his first outing as Iron Man ($500,000) and Chadwick Boseman for his first as Black Panther ($2 million)," the piece continues.
"As for the microphone issue, she says she now mics herself in her trailer and advises her female friends on sets to do the same."

Aw, I was well advised by mom, come to think of it, to buy a wrist corsage.
Are there no "sound girls"?
Exactly what I was thinking of!
And then there was Scum of the Earth, whose members would assault their fans.

Hilarious to watch generations fight the battles of the past with the outcomes known and pretend they're courageous.
Not least because cam sync or foreign versions come available on the web after the opening.
How does one avoid those things???? Looks like an accident waiting to happen...
Hahahaha...well said!
Dignity, dignity.
“Treat men and women the same”, “except we need special people to put on our sound equipment”
Why don’t they just get one of the female sound people to put on female’s sound equipment? Or maybe one of the guys could just identify as a woman long enough to do the job?
I wonder if there would be an issue if a lesbian woman was putting on a woman’s sound equipment?
R. Lee Ermey complained when anyone attached a microphone his privates on the set (or his corporals, too).
I understand on Netflix production you’re not allowed to look at another person for over 5 seconds. They shouldn’t mess too hard with the IAEA crew. They’ve had about enough of this cr@p already.
Exactly. That is how you handle it. Or maybe different wording...
LOL...not even the courtesy of a reach around!
An wrong pointing mic or light can wreak havoc on the production.
I love articulated screens. My solo stock stuff that set my own lights is helped a lot. Cuts down on back and forth.
In college, community, and for-profit theater, and apparently in a lot of high schools, the actors and actresses are pretty much changing in a common area, they just know it’s part of the gig, and frankly if you are professional about it what’s the big deal?
I work as a haunt monster at a local theme park, and we change into costumes in a common room (used to be a locker room with rows, but now all the lockers are around the outside and there are no benches and 24-hour surveillance). Most of the people have no problem stripping down to underwear as part of this (I have some shorts and a shirt I always wear under my costume so I have pockets). Some of the girls also change out of bras without covering up.
But it is frowned upon for any guy to remove their underwear — nobody wants to see guy’s junk.
Looks like the ‘grips’ should be called ‘gropes’!
While I do not plan to go see her movie in the theaters, and I doubt I share her political views on nearly anything, I agree with her on this.
I have had to mic up people before. There is a proper way to do it. You have to hide the wires and make sure the mic does not pick up noise of things like the movement of clothing. You generally apply tape to hold things in place. It is not always obvious the best way to do this, but the basics can be learned in a relatively short amount of time.
In this case, the proper placement of the mic and wires might require being topless, which makes her decision to do it herself a wise one.
Would it be acceptable if the female interns were lesbians?
