Nepotism displayed in the privileges given to President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, constituted a national security issue, a prominent former federal prosecutor and ethics campaigner said. “White House advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner show why nepotism laws exist: This is not only an ethics [issue] but a national security issue. They have received special treatment, including security clearance, and apparently can’t be fired,” Noah Bookbinder, a former federal corruption prosecutor and the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, tweeted. Bookbinder was responding to a The New York Times report that the president had sought to force his daughter and her husband to resign from their White House roles shortly after hiring John Kelly as chief of staff.

No different than anyone who has worked for any president in the White House. The Executive Branch determines clearance. Half the Obama White House got a free pass on clearance.

Where is the “security risk” that attaches to Ivanka and Jared? I do not get that in the least. There are any number of ACTUAL persons who have split loyalties, and assuredly, Donald Trump’s daughter and son-in-law are definitely not among them.
Now, it is true that Jared Kushner does carry almost the same weight as a Cabinet officer, a “minister without portfolio,” and kind of “Kitchen Cabinet”. But I am also disposed to believe that he carries himself responsibly and exercises due circumspection. While it may appear to be nepotism in the eyes of some, still Mr. Kushner has had to prove himself every day to the satisfaction of his father-in-law and also President, Donald J. Trump.
Obviously everyone is free to post bovine scat; but why do it here? This is about the man and his family — the people we need to thank for keeping the hildebeest from destroying the country. She was the REAL national security problem.
That’s why they passed anti-nepotism laws. But this is about security clearance, nepotism is just thrown in to cloud the issue.

Nepotism laws do not apply to a President who is given wide latitude to pick whoever is most trusted.
I’m not saying they’re wrong, but I will say I’ll start listening to them when they can show how they said the same things as loudly and as forcefully about the special treatment that Bill and Hillary got under Obama.
