According to Pacific Grove residents, Lynn Rip Van Winkle Open Space is known as the "perfect" place to bring your pet, but owners are shaken after learning about a deadly dog attack, Tuesday morning.

My dogs are part of me.
If anything attacks them, it attacks me as well.
And I will respond harshly.
And I will be backed up by police as has happened before.
Dad once had a big German Shepherd that was the best dog around people and kids. But let him spot another dog then it was off to the fights. There’s no way dad would have taken it to a dog park even if it was leash only.......
In a similar situation, Ill simply pull out my gun and empty the magazine into the pit bull.
Get a good lawyer.
Apparently you don’t know how to read.
I stated that it’s already happened before, and that I was backed up by police.
So it turns out I didn’t need a lawyer at all, good or otherwise.
I’ll await your next smart ass response.
Yeah ... once disney started making animals talk part of the human race started going nuts ...
oops
Such a poorly written article, “loose” for “lose” and unclear wording on which owner had the knife. If you watch the video, it’s made clear it was the owner of the dog being attacked (ie “under”) that pulled the knife and killed the pit.
When a pit attacked my dog, I gouged its eyes; the rescue operation that was (mis)handling it finished off the job.
Ugh—that must have been so traumatic!
And I hope you and your doggy were okay.
I have Cavaliers, wonderful dogs and very friendly, docile. As such they seem to attract aggressive dogs, so we’re very careful with them around other dogs. I have at least five times defended them against other dogs who either got off lead or were mishandled, including this Pit attack and two German Shepherds, one off lead the other that dragged its owner towards me.
The GS were easy to deflect, just kicked them in the head. I’ve dealt w/ that breed before, having grown up w/ one in the house behind us that I learned to dominate, as GS respect authority. Pits, thought, no way, and I’ve never lived in areas w/ people who own them... (yes, you FR pit apologizers, that’s you). It just grabbed my boy by the head and started that twisting thing they do, lifting my 22lb Cav off the ground.
It happened too fast to avoid but I managed to figure out quickly enough that there was no way it was going to release, so I went street-fighter on it and gouged its eyes — a very unhappy Pitty.
My dog suffered just a single puncture wound, thankfully, but was very shook up. My vet says my poor grooming saved him — his ears are like Rastafarians, as we don’t obsessively groom them like most Cav owners.
I love Charlies! So cute and affable. Even, I suppose, with straggly ears. My sister with a cute little cocker has had a couple of loose dogs in the park come right after it. They must look like tender morsels.
Totally adorable!
Heh, they’re dogs, no illusions. They can catch and tear apart rabbits and birds. But it’s different w/ dogs: we have socialized dogs, so we don’t want them attacking each other or us. Very simple.
Dog parks are a liability nightmares, not to mention a common place for dog fights even though this article attempts to soft peddle it. Then throw in stupid people who have no biz owning a dog and the common dog diseases jumping from one dog to the next...on and on.

You’ve stated the reasons why I never have and never will take my dogs to any so-called dog park. And I’m prepared to kill any dog that attacks my dogs. In fact I recently told a woman renting a house near my vacation home that the very first chance I get I’m going to kill her vicious dog, and I mean to do it.
A hugely disproportionate amount of low lifes are attracted to pit bulls.

YES, I’m really glad you mentioned this because it’s absolutely true. I’m a news junky and I’ve been focusing on this for several years. No question about it.
