What does it mean if someone says you have no personality?
“We typically understand that we have not been paid a compliment,” write four researchers from Ouachita Baptist University in a recently published study. But the term is otherwise a little vague. Does it mean you’re quiet and reserved, or that you’re just not very unique? Are you, God forbid, basic?
The study’s conclusions point to something unfortunate for the quiet and reserved among us. People with no personality are those who don’t bombard other people with their preferences and thoughts like little opinion drones. And their image suffers for it.

“Good personality” was another description for “big boned”.
You made me smile. You say concrete, I say literal. My husband is quite that way. Better Sleep Through Science - oh my! I think my husband would’ve made that excuse to sleep through science class back in the day.
He goes into a Burger King right next to a Taco Bell and asked them why they took tacos off the menu. I know it’s not the same thing, thinking wise, but at 60 one would think you’d know what fast food joint you were in. He’s never been one to notice his surroundings. It’s weird but I love him just the same.
“No personality” means people I don’t like. And that’s a very large number.
Take a trip on a nuclear submarine. The entire crew put together couldn’t come up with one personality. The most deadpan people on earth. Ziltch personality on-board.
Another stupid study without a basis for any valid conclusion.
FYI Everyone has a personality unique to their own self.
I had an anthro professor who said how unnerving it was to be on a Japanese bullet train and to look back at the faces of the people behind her.
Life in Japan is crowded such that people maintain tightly their personal space, not interacting with strangers, while maintaining emotionless expressions.
Looking at the sea of blank faces was disconcerting. She said it’s one of the reasons Japanese age in appearance so slowly, because they get fewer wrinkles from a lifetime of having a stone face.

That’s true and they even acknowledge it. They also keep their emotions tight to their chests as well. Taught from a tender age.
Heck! I like you for just admitting that. The older I get, the pickier I get about people I choose to have around me. Not honest, bug off!
Yet many Asians define Americans as loud, crude and obnoxious. Which is generally true compared to even other western nations.
Everything in our life becomes ‘narrower’ as we age. We become more selective as we have learned what and who we like, and this includes pretty much every area of our life. Though we still explore and learn new things even that avenue narrows. It’s quit natural as I see it and we’re better for it.

My experience of going through customs has been that non-American officers are usually low key and professional.
American agents I found to be intimidating, officious, and rude. If the first impression citizens of other countries get of Americans is what they have to endure to get into the country, I can see why they think we are loud, crude, and obnoxious.
I can see your perspective and agree with it for the most part. I don’t get out as much as I used to due to being in a small town. I love all the small town folks that have become good friends.
Sometimes, I miss the city and being able to walk to restaurants, shops and pubs. Don’t miss Somali city though. Boy, do I have stories about those critters in their smelly sheets. No, I am not politcally correct. Lived it in South Minneapolis for 20 years, no plans to do it again.
