I had an anthro professor who said how unnerving it was to be on a Japanese bullet train and to look back at the faces of the people behind her.
Life in Japan is crowded such that people maintain tightly their personal space, not interacting with strangers, while maintaining emotionless expressions.
Looking at the sea of blank faces was disconcerting. She said it’s one of the reasons Japanese age in appearance so slowly, because they get fewer wrinkles from a lifetime of having a stone face.
I think the Navy medical corp has to certify someone as personality free before they send them to sub school.
....”Life in Japan is crowded such that people maintain tightly their personal space, not interacting with strangers, while maintaining emotionless expressions”.....
That’s true and they even acknowledge it. They also keep their emotions tight to their chests as well. Taught from a tender age.
