NEWTOWN, Ohio (WKRC) The season of Lent means Christians are fasting and giving up certain pleasures or vices.
One Ohio man is taking a page from history.
For 46 days, Del Hall is drinking only beer.
Im going to have all styles of beer, the Fifty West worker said about the fast.
Beer will be the only thing on Halls menu and he wont have solid food until Easter Sunday.
Hall says hes taking a nod from monks in the 1600s that would fast during the season by a bock beer diet.
Being master brewers, they decided they would take a popular style of beer in Germany, bock beer, make it extra hearty and that would be their liquid bread and thats what they call it, Hall said. So the monks in Bavaria, they would call doppelbock liquid bread and basically it would sustain them through the 46 days of Lent.Its not an entirely new concept for Hall. He previously did a four day water fast but this is a whole different beast.
I'm an army veteran, I was number one in my class in the army, I've run a full marathon before, 26.2 miles, I've done big challenges but this seems very daunting, Hall said. So I'm just curious if I'm up to the challenge, if I'm going to be able to do it or not.

That’s why I mix my morning beer with tomato juice!

He’s drinking on the Sundays too. 6 weeks + 4 days = 46.
Does he intend to drive or is he going to stagger to everywhere he wants to go?
So if he spaces out a glass of beer every two hours or so, it will be plenty of time for the liver to metabolize the alcohol and get about a hour and a half of rest.
Or he could choose to have two beers every four hours. This would give the liver three hours of rest for each one hour of work.
I assume eight hours of sleep a day so during sleeptime, the liver will get an extra long rest.
So this could be safely done. Maybe a schedule could go something like this:
7AM (Breakfast) - Two beers
11AM (Lunch) - Two beers
3PM (Snack) - One beer
7PM (Dinner) - Two beers
11PM (Bedtime) - One beer
That would be eight 12-oz beers per day. Caloric level will average around 1,200 per day. Definitely enough calories to survive for 40 days but the man will be hungry!

I used to call it a “Bloody Mike” but since the last FLOTUS, that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
