https://urology.wustl.edu/patient-care/kidney-stones/kidney-stones-overview/ said that stones under 5 mm can take a few days to a few weeks to pass.

And since it is on the internet it must be right.

Not much advice, but I would continue to lots of water, take meds except those for pain unless needed and call a urologist in the AM. Did the ER make a referral?
I will pray for her relief! They hurt like the dickens!

I have only had one, 9mm, too large to pass on its own so the urologist blasted it to smaller pieces by shock wave lithotripsy. Passing the fragments, and their were many, was a painful, nauseating experience that took 2 days.

I have had so many kidney stone attacks that I can’t remember how many.

It is hard to say for sure but it sounds like the stone has moved to the bladder where the pain is either non existent or just a slight irritation.

I have almost never even known when they passed out of the body. Just see them in that screener. I will say that once I had them off and on for 12 days. The pain was not as severe as sometimes but still enough to make me barf.

I never knew when I passed mine. But I was also in the hospital on morphine.

Surely the urologist that diagnosed her in the Emergency room noted that she see him/her on a follow-up appointment. Then the check-up will determine if the stone was passed. Patience is required. If she has no pain at this time, more than likely the stone has been passed.

If the pain is gone, she most likely passed it already.

I've gone through this several times and it is excruciatingly painful. Haven't had one in a while though. Might be because I try to drink around a gallon of clean spring water and black coffee each day. That seems to have done the trick as far as preventing more from forming.

Year ago this past Labor Day weekend (Fri. nite naturally) had the same thing, same size. Got some morphine at ER and hydra contin script to hold me. ER set me up with a urologist for Tues. AM. Had another X-ray that morning, stone was still there, and then got the sonic procedure. Was home by 3 PM.
Procedure worked well, only very small pieces of debris in trap. Lab said it was oxalates.

My family is prone to them so, yeah we know how it’s like.

No pain means urine is no longer “backed up’ resulting in pain.

It may have passed to her bladder where it will no longer cause any pain and may take a few more days to pass all the way out.

If the stone was still in the tubes between the kidney and bladder, it would probably still hurt intermittently within a few hours and you should see a urologists. He will determine if you need lipotripsy or to have a “basket’ to go up her urinary tract and grab the stone if if is too hard for the sound waves to bust it up.

I’ve had it done both ways. Not fun.

Continue to drink lots of water.

Good luck!

I have a history of kidney stones and passed a 5mm stone last week. Passing a 2mm stone will be painful but quite doable. Once the stone passes through the ureter tube and reaches the bladder, the worst is over.

We have a friend that has recurrent kidney stones....only had to have them “blasted” twice over the years but they do make her miserable when they occur....if she isn’t currently in pain, things are going good....if she needs followup procedures, the stone will make it evident...just don’t irritate her for the nonce...;-)

On a separate issue...anyone had experience with a gall stone?

Have been diagnosed with a single floating stone about half inch in diameter...but no pain or other symptoms.

(was noticed during a heart ultrasound scan...heart OK...but gallstone noted as anecdotal "out of service consultation")

If she is no longer in pain the stone probably passed through, the key, PLENTY of water, that is what I believe creates kidney stones, not drinking enough water..my aunt had those, painful as heck, felt like giving birth she said..sometimes they do a laser procedure where they turn the stone into dust so it can be passed, sometimes it comes out itself..but she has to drink plenty of fluids everyday to prevent re occurrence

get on high dose magnesium (build up over 3 days or so to 800mg per day). Mag glycinate. mag makes calcium dissolve and absorb; kidney stones are calcium (ie sign of low mag)

Watch out for ...

This was me 20 years ago and a day or two later I was back in the ER cause the meds they gave me caused constipation. They didnt deal with that up front.

You need to take some stool softener or such to avoid any constipation issues — which maybe pains that make you think the stone is still there while its the other.

My stone was calcium supplements I started a week earlier. Freep mail me on that issue if relevant.
