The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be about gardening.
Garden soil is still frozen though. Temps will be colder tonight and tomorrow. We have ordered greenhouse/shelves similar to those that Eric in the Ozarks had pics of earlier this year.
Hope all is well with everyone. Have a good weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the list. Daylight Savings Time leap forward this weekend....
We had a lovely day in the forties today...hopefully we can melt some of the icebergs lining the streets! :-)
LOL. We finally got all the snow gone. Last night we had a lot of thunder and lightening to go with the rain.
Tonight we have a lot of strong winds that are rattling the greenhouse.
I am ready to start prepping my 3-sister mounds. Never have, sounded interesting and thought I would give it a go.
Ignorance is not bliss. I moved to a house in the southwest that had what appeared to be a dwarf navel orange tree. At t he onset of winter I noted a serious curly-leaf problem. I watched as it got worse. I sprayed with neem oil. I checked the leaves for spider mites or some sort of fungal infection. After much cogitation I have decided that the leaves curled because they did not like the unusually cold winter. I may be wrong, but if so I would like for someone to set me straight.
Greetings from southern New Hampshire, where it is snowing, this first day of Daylight Savings Time. I just ordered a 3# Package of honey bees for delivery on April 1st. I dont know if our colony from last year wintered over, or not. I did treat them for Veroa Mites, but who knows. This year I resolve to be much more dutiful.
Starting to plan for my garden. I want to really amend the soil, work it up really well, and put in a no-kidding asparagus bed, a decend planting of potatos, and several 4 squares of the Three Sisters.
We have been saving the buckets that cat litter comes in and I have been researching hydroponics. I plan on a row of Dutch Buckets on our back deck
I have been making progress on clearing the items and crap out of the partially burned Quonset 10 by 20 shelter. Once it is cleared, I will relocate it and start prepping the site for our greenhouse. Also want to prep the site on the south side of my shop for the expansion. I successfully tested the motor on the magnificent DeWalt 16 radial arm saw (RAS) that Barb and I picked up from a parking lot warehouse sale. Now, I can strip the saw down, clean and repaint it, and put it in service. Problem is, I also picked up a beautiful Delta 14 RAS off of an IRS auction for $77.50, and I want to put it in my shop, along with a 10 that is in there, already. I dont want to part with any of them, so an expansion is in order. It will be my rough-processing shop. I will put my planers, Dads Unisaw, the DeWalt, and that incredible 16 buzz planer that started this whole Old Arn thing off. It is all Barbs Fault!
Keep the humidity in the 70s when the seeds first come up.
Take it down to the 40s when you see the second set of leaves appear.
I did that one year. It was interesting. We had the same problem with squash that we usually do.
Citrus trees may be affected adversely by pests, diseases, environmental conditions and/or cultural practices. There are four major reasons for leaf curl in orange trees: pests, disease, water stress and weather. Sometimes its a combination of all four.

LOL. We have problems with space and acquisitions too. We have a whole lot of stuff that we keep because something may come up for which we may need it.
That includes stuff like the plastic clear clamshell sandwich containers that Casey’s uses. McDonald large Drink cups. Etc.
Every time Hubby is looking for something, I tell him, I think it’s in the Garage.
To which he replies, I can’t get into the car to even try and find it. Hence our plans to build a shed the size of a 2 car garage.
Thanks for the tip.
Missed this reminder, was puzzled for a few minutes around 4 AM, while working an unscheduled third shift, thought someone was messing with the clocks. :^)
Time passes fast when having fun. Such a nice day on Saturday. Did other stuff till dark, then fixed supper. Made for a late posting Saturday night. Almost no one around to talk to then.
Thanks for the pics. Things are looking good in both places.
