The so-called V3 Supercharger operates at 250 kilowatts -- approximately twice that of the older stations -- and can charge some of its cars at a rate of 75 miles every five minutes, which Tesla is promoting as “1,000 miles per hour,” without explaining the math. (75 x 12 = 900, doesn't it?)
(Following the publication of this article, a Tesla representative clarified that the "1,000 mph" speed is a peak rate that is only sustained for a portion of the initial five-minute period on batteries at a low state of charge.
Average speeds over longer charging times were not provided, as the system is still in development.)
Combined with a new feature that brings the car’s battery pack to an optimal charging temperature as it is approaching the station, Tesla says total charging time will be reduced by up to 50 percent.
The higher speed was enabled, in part, by a switch to liquid-cooled charging cables, according to the Teslarati blog.
For now, the Fremont, Calif., station is in Beta mode and only compatible with Tesla Model 3s, which use a newer type of battery cell technology than the Model S and X, and is only being made available to a select group of owners in the Tesla Early Access Program.

I "charge" my diesel in about 3 minutes and once fully charged I can get about 750 miles on the Interstate.
I've been driving diesels for 10 years.When I take my car to the dealer for repair or for a "free" oil change I always ask for a diesel loaner.I used to get one occasionally but no longer. They tell me they don't loan out diesels any more because people were putting gas in them.
Whenever I let family or friends drive my car I very firmly state that they're not to fill it up...even if they do so out of gratitude.I always make sure the tank is full or close to full before they drive off.

Then BP service stations have a very helpful system for those who want to put gasoline in their diesel vehicles.
They have a green handle on the gas pump, just like all the other diesel pumps. Except, they’re not diesel of course.
I Guarantee charging the battery like this will shorten the life of the battery(s). Imagine what replacement batteries is going to cost you.

True, and on top of that, charging any battery that fast cannot be done when it starts to top out (or you have another Tesla fireworks show), so, at most, they’ll get to 80% charge and then taper down and charge much slower...and they may even have to taper at 70%, as the 80% number applies to the existing stations, which charge at half the rate.
Bottom line, if you want their advertised charge rate, you will probably have to stop every 150 miles, versus at least twice that in a real car, something 3 times as far.
Also, 250 kW of power is nothing to sneeze at (roughly 250 houses with AC off). For solar power, you’d need around 1200 panels (and that’s just for one car), and only with near-direct sunlight. I’ve counted the panels on their Supercharging stations, roughly 100. So, how are they going to pull of that stunt? Just kidding, we all know those panels are for propaganda and may not even be wired up.

Thanks for the calculations, but I think they’re twice the voltage at the high charging rates - still 4” copper in the cables though!
And so with this cooling capability, they then are able to double the capacity of the copper, so maybe 2.7” copper. Ever try dragging a fire hose, then 2 at once, and then increase the weight about 5-fold. LOL.

I have had people come up to me at the station when filling up that VW and tell me that I was putting diesel into that Bug.
I would laugh and say, yup, it runs better on diesel.
Put over 400 thousand on that thing. The dam plastic body just came apart and we got rid of it. I wish we would have had that thing completely redone at a body shop now.
Tesla 3 is steel bodied, so they are going to have some major rust problems, given how they trap dirt, sand, salt, de-icer etc.

Well, my calculations were based on the energy flow while filling your tank at an ordinary gas pump.
Tesla is claiming 75 kWh capacity for the batteries in their “Model 3.” That’s about 230 MJ.
If they could charge the Tesla batteries at a 5.5 MWe rate, it would take about 42 seconds get 230 MJ into them; of course, that’s assuming no losses, which is ridiculous.
But in reality they can’t charge them at anything approaching that rate, which would require the fire-hose-size cables, the electrical substation next to the gas station, etc.
The gas station where I fill my car normally (at a discount big-box store) can fill eight cars at the same time, and often does.
In order to charge eight Teslas at the same time would
require almost 50 MWe of power, which is comparable to the amount of electricity used to run an electric-arc furnace.
We at FR can be a cruel bunch.
