An American woman who divorced her Saudi businessman husband is now trapped in the country with their young daughter because of the Kingdom's restrictions on women.
Bethany Vierra, who is originally from Washington state, has been living in Saudi Arabia since 2011 when she moved there to teach at a women's university, the New York Times reports.
The now 31-year-old met her future husband there and they married in Portugal in 2013. They have a four-year-old daughter together.

Not a hint that she’s no longer a big LIB. Let her rot.
I have no sympathy for this dingbat.
What a nitwit. Let the multicultural-worshipping globalist rot. Who cares???
American men not good enough for her?
So one's rights depend on their political bent? My, the Democrats will adore using your "logic" when they are back in power.

Her stupidity aside, an American wants to come back to America and is being prevented from doing so. That’s not a good thing.
This makes me feel oh so bad.
as per Saudi rules, a woman can't initiate a divorce and she can't travel abroad without permission from the male family leader
It's ok to be stupid the first time - especially if you are in love.
But when she decided to get divorced she should have played nice for some time then suggested an all family vacation to the USA and then run.
Silly woman.
and SOooo What?
She wanted the Saudi life , .. she got it!
The good news is that she was extremely tolerant.
From the original article:
[She] is a dual Saudi-American citizen.
Which means as a Saudi citizen, she is obligated to follow Saudi law.
Even if she can work out how to leave the Kingdom, her family says she will not be allowed to take her daughter unless the girl's father gives permission.
As is the case in almost every country on the planet. What would happen if a woman who was a British Subject living in the U.S. married an American man, had a daughter, then divorced, and tried to take her daughter, a U.S. Citizen, out of the country back to the U.K. without the father's permission? Same thing, she would not be able to take her daughter out of the United States without permission from both the father and the Family Courts.
This is not a "Saudi" problem, this is a sovereign nation exercising their custody laws.
Her first mistake was having anything to do with a Saudi.
One of my nieces went to college in Italy and ended up marrying an Italian. They have had a good marriage, but she made sure that every one of her three daughters were born here in the US and that they all have US passports.
The Washington Post should send Kashoggi to do some investigative reporting. Oh, wait.........
Yeah, she can virtue-signal her little brains out.
Sorry ‘bout yer luck, bub. Did you really think you were enlightened when you married a goat raper?
Careful, you’ll use up all your Kleenex crying for the traitor.
