The Norwegian Cruise Line’s Escape, a passenger ship capable of cruising with 6,000 people, was pushed suddenly Sunday night by a gust of wind about 115 mph, a burst similar to the wind of a Category 3 hurricane.

Several passengers and crew members were injured, the company said Tuesday without giving specific numbers or detailing the nature of injuries. Medical teams on board tended to the injured.

About a dozen ambulances were at the port when the ship arrived at Port Canaveral, Florida, on Tuesday morning...

Tables, chairs and passengers slid across the room, as other passengers watched. Screams, shattering glass and sliding items can be heard in the footage Black recorded.

There was no damage to the vessel, which arrived at Port Canaveral.

The Norwegian Escape can carry up to 4,266 passengers and 1,733 crew members. The ship, built in 2015, has 20 decks and weighs 164,600 tons.

Was this the same storm system that spawned the tornadoes in AL and GA?

If so, you’d think the ship would have been better prepared for bad weather.

It heeled over to the port side far enough the lifeboats themselves were touching water.
A passenger was hurt very badly, lots of blood when a slot machine fell over.
You won’t see a lot of videos as they are being confiscated.

My Wife's mother is on that ship- called and left a message of what happened. She's fine.

Strange thing is, her (MIL's) brother and his wife were on that cruise ship that listed way over and everyone had to be rescued.

My mother in law was sleeping on the port side, in her voice message, she said that; “the ship went over like 45°, we looked out the window and the water was right there!”

My GFs cruise in DEC had a similar occurrence. She said that the ship listed by about 15 degrees or so for a long time, consistently, for about 10-15 min. She thought they were hung up on a reef or something in the middle of the storm. Some broken dishes in the buffet line areas, but not much else was damaged.

Yes, that is quite a claim. I heard a short audio segment wherein a passenger claimed the gust put the ship on a 45 degree roll. Having survived a handful of typhoons in the Pacific on a 1943 tin can and been on numerous cruises aboard modern cruise ships, I can tell you that a modern cruise ship should be close to or in the process of turning turtle at a 45 degree roll.

I’m sorry.

I asked them if they ever had anyone as big as me go on their zip line before.

“Yeah. We’ve had plenty of guys bigger than you go on it.”

I built up quite a bit of speed, and when I hit the end, “Bang!”, and the ship almost tipped over.

I did it three more times.

They thought it was quite a storm.

the ship went over like 45°

Most people are very poor judges of inclines. A 45 degree list would almost certain result in a capsize. The center of gravity would just be too far off. On a hill, a 45 degree incline might as well be a 90 degree cliff for most hikers or vehicles.

But if the lifeboats were actually touching the water, it might have been...
