MIT's new mini cheetah robot is springy and light on its feet, with a range of motion that rivals a champion gymnast. The four-legged power pack can bend and swing its legs wide, enabling it to walk either right-side up or upside down. Fascinating about the Jukushima incident really getting things moving (no pun intended).
As much as this all spooks my small minded brain, the robots could save 10s of thousands of lives is a great thing.
you do need “hands” to turn valves and open doors!

But someday, eons down the road, after they have conqured and vanquished us, they will teach that “evolution’ is the reason for what they are now.

The projection is that we will just merge into them, first controlling them directly from our brains, and later having our consciousness ported off of our biological neuronal switches and onto non-biological semiconductor switches. Over the course of this century - kids who are alive today.
That is really not a general purpose robot, but rather a specialized backflip mechanism.

Will you say to yourself “wow, i was in that human body a half hour ago and now i’m in this robot”?
What does it say about the soul if all of you can be downloaded and still have the same belief system as in the human body.

I am certainly no theologian.

I don’t know either. I’d guess both might be possible.

It is a purely mechanical device, like a cuckoo clock. It detects nothing and adjusts nothing on its own. I guess the word does not not have a precise definition, but I look for some degree of autonomous action.
