As Dr. Seuss birthday approaches on March 2, a new study argues that many of the authors classic childrens books are racist and problematic and only two percent of his characters represent people of color.
[This study reveals] how racism spans across the entire Seuss collection, while debunking myths about how books like Horton Hears a Who! and The Sneetches can be used to promote tolerance, anti-bias, or anti-racism, Katie Ishizuka and Ramón Stephens write in their February 2019 report, The Cat is Out of the Bag: Orientalism, AntiBlackness, and White Supremacy in Dr. Seuss s Childrens Books, as part of St. Catherine Universitys Research on Diversity in Youth Literature.
They continue: Findings from this study promote awareness of the racist narratives and images in Dr. Seuss childrens books and implications to the formation and reinforcement of racial biases in children.

The whole society is racist because the family planning & abortion industries target blacks and other people of color. But little white man Wim Statius Muller must be one of the worst cultural appropriators because he mixes black, brown and white culture. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3729256/posts
It’s racist to be alive. For anyone.
I had mixed feelings about them.
I do NOT like things that look like distorted human faces or bodies. I always HATED with a passion, clowns and manikin type puppets. They creep me out big time.
So some of the books I was OK with, others not.
“Every left-winger has become the child-catcher from chittychittybangbang, smelling racism in everything, under the floorboards, in the woodwork. These are hysterical times.”
These truly are hysterical times. I am waiting for left-wingers to declare that Geppetto is a pedophile because he wanted Pinocchio to turn into a real boy.
Little Black Sambo was the winner. He got the tigers turned into butter.
And another classic, the Tar Baby from “the Song of the South” - ostracized and condemned by racist liberals while they actually demonstrated solid principles to live by.
television commercials sell a lot more than product.
one of the reasons that I live a commercial free life
“...just pay attention to television commercials...”
Watching TV commercials nowadays, you can only assume blacks have surpassed 50% proportion of the USA population...rather than their actual 12-13%. Good for the black actors that got a paying gig. But I shy away from purchasing products from companies that are attempting to manipulate me with their bull crap social engineering.
Ever notice that the folks yelling “racist” are almost always ones who have never done anything productive - or ever will?
If these schmucks don’t like the books, let them write, publish, and sell some that do. Wanna bet their sales would be right up there with “How to clean your septic tank and dispose of the progressives found there.”
The internet, social media especially, is accelerating the craft of assholiness way beyond our wildest dreams
I actually saw the over representation of blacks in ads explained by a marketing experts.
Whites in studies on the subject dont care about the race of the actors in the ads. They focus on the procuct. Blacks, however, do care. So its a win to put blacks in the ads due to black racism. The expert didnt put it that way, but thats the idea.
even in catalogs...there is never a blond and if there is a blond, she is always much more unattractive than the main brown model.
Looked at Psychology today this month... they have an artsy graphics department. All the whites were unattractive. Just watched a show called the Umbrella Academy. Still holds.
I dunno. Yertle the Turtle is a a pretty accurate description of bureaucratic life in DC.
Race card expired. Get along or go pound sand. No other options at this point.
Dr. Suess was a leftist himself, cut from the same cloth as those attacking him today. His book “The Big Butter Battle” was a bit of stupid and ham-handed propaganda against Ronald Reagan and the European Pershing Missile policies in the 1980s.
I believe the Geisel heirs have stated publicly that those words should not be taken as an anti-abortion sentiment.
Not leftist by todays standards. JFK would be deemed an ultra right ringer. Alt-right even.
Really? They are going after Dr. Seuss now?
I believe another element in TV ads is the audience themselves; in my experience white guys are a lot less likely to watch TV than minorities or women, and because they make up a good portion of the workforce they are less likely to p!ss away hard-earned money based on an ad - or because some celebrity said so.
I’m not a high-tech person, but I’ll read reviews online before I buy something - couldn’t care less what goofy pitch they put on TV.
Not to hijack the thread but, there was a restaurant near me in the 70s called Sambos. It was in a black area and they had the characture Sambo on the menu. It was the only restaurant I have been to where you had to pay before they would give you any food.
