Peru's lowland tropical forest to document invertebrates and saw an uncommon sight: a large tarantula, the size of a "dinner plate" with "massive fangs" catching and eating a baby opossum. Although they didn't capture on video the part where the tarantula caught the animal, they were the first to ever record a tarantula feasting on an opossum.

The opossum isn't dead, it's merely ...wait for it ...playing possum.
To: DUMBGRUNT
Perhaps he was just playing possum.

I had a black widow living in a shed, take down a tarantula at least 10x bigger.

Probably true.
One evening my wife came to tell of how the dogs killed a possum in the backyard, would I take care of it.
Yet somehow it wandered away.

YES!
If global warming brings giant tarantulas up to DuPage County...
I might have to purchase a Tesla to fight global warming?

Roaches play possum, too.
Smack them more than once... even if it’s on it’s back playing dead.

By the foliage, I’d say “small possum and large spider.
Definitely not Tennessee spiders nor possums.
Possums a bit bigger and the spiders smaller.
