Bare-faced and clad in jeans, clutching a rather uncertain-looking black toddler on her hip, Stacey Dooley stands beaming in the dust of a parched African landscape. At first glance you could mistake it for a gap year snapshot, destined to be pinned up somewhere in a student bedroom. Dooley is, of course, one of the breakout stars of this years Strictly Come Dancing, and the picture was taken in Uganda, where she is making a film for the upcoming Comic Relief...(snip)
Which is perhaps why the Labour MP David Lammy touched such a nerve when he responded to the image by tweeting that the world doesnt need any more white saviours, or western do-gooders flying in, believing they are solving the developing worlds problems while blissfully ignorant of the colonial baggage they carry...(snip)
... the campaign group No White Saviors, which in criticising the Dooley picture made it clear it doesnt want to stop white people coming to Africa, merely to stop white people making themselves the hero of the story. What makes that so difficult for some to take is that it isnt just about asking one presenter to take a back seat, but also all those viewers who unconsciously identify with her.

Don’t come to white-established countries looking for a better life either.
I partially agree with the Guardian: we should stop trying to save Africa and the rest of the Third World. It’s a thankless task, and I’d rather we mind our own business.
Cordially,
The 1980's
But Bono is expecting to be grandfathered in.
Same here. Id rather help our own citizens first.
This article is correct, but for the wrong reasons. Why does Nepal or Senegal need Americans to dig wells or install water purification systems? What’s wrong with their local government or citizens?
Lots of suburban kids in our area go on these “missions.” Raise money to send a white kid to hug black children in Haiti for a week.

Does that mean Italians are no longer welcome in Britain? If it wasn’t for Roman colonization brits would still be living in huts and painting themselves blue.

Wow, I agree with THIS brand of multiculturalist...!
Yes, DO NOT help Africa..!
What a strange feeling.
LIBERATING..!
You don’t think the natives of Britain would ever have advanced, independently, beyond the Neolithic?
The colonization of the non-western world did much to elevate most of that world from the ignorance and poverty it was in.
I agree. Our Catholic school has senior mission trips to central america to build concrete blockschools and crap. And they come back with slide shows of all the wonderful people they met, who didnt seem the least bit retarded or physically disabled. Never understood it, myself, and never gave any money.
Dont think there arent more than a few Brits who would love that.
No. Not without Christianity. Rome did some, but it wasnt until Christianity that the savages really stopped being savage and actually started doing things productive and moved beyond tribalism.
That’s an interesting view that fits with much current evidence. Today, all the knowledge and physical plant to build civilization is available to all, but it doesn’t happen for all. There have to be intervening factors that prevent people in many countries from taking the complete works of Thomas Sowell and the world’s scientific knowledge and become decent spots for people.
I always thought we should make them colonies again.
What would we gain?
Stacey Dooley is a brave young Englishwoman who has confronted Muslims who have taken over her town of Luton. She’ll get in their face and ask the right questions; only the presence of cameras keeps her alive & unharmed, IMO.
