I will say that’s the BBC take on it.

On the drive in this morning I heard a few other takes that did not seem as negative.

Basic facts given are: 1) They disagreed on lifting all sanctions in return for 1 nuc facility closure. 2) They still shook hands, Kim was still smiling, and Trump said it was better to do no deal than a bad deal. 3)Kim made no public comments.

There were no comments about “demands” and Trump specifically said there was no ‘walking away’ and that it just wasn’t a good deal.

One of the reporter even said that the 1 nuc facility is one that has been in the news before, but said pretty much everyone knows there are more; so it made sense not to take the deal...yes I was shocked.

There were some comments about if a treaty to end the Korean War could be in the discussions and Kim was holding out for that. In addition the Cohen congressional staging was mentioned as perhaps a reason for Kim to push harder thinking Trump needed a win to offset it.

That’s a great point.

Trump will win this deal, of course -- for US. But he will make sure that Kim looks like the winner -- for North Korea.

re: Trump/Kim no deal

One possibility I’m considering :

What if the meeting is a cover for something else? If POTUS wants cover for another Asian trip then this would give him a perfect cover. He can return to Asia (or wherever he and Kim plan the next meeting) and no one would think it odd. Meanwhile, POTUS and his team could be doing whatever it is they needed to do at the site of the next meeting.

POTUS - or maybe it was KANSAS - during press conference, said something like they told the NORKs things they (we) know that they (NORKs) didn’t know we know ... and that shocked them.

I was wondering who may have gotten to Little Rocket Man (Kerry, Biden, Klintoons, et al) to convince him to hang in there a few more years, wait for a new Democrat President, and go back to the same old ways of dealing with the Norks: Play footsy, sound tough, but cave-in at every step and give the Norks more "stuff", and drink more champagne with Kim like Madeleine All-Dim. Is this why talks collapsed? Clinton operatives working on Kim, and other Clinton operatives (Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis) body-punching Trump while he was out of the country and the House sham hearing.
