It would be right to say that what he did won't be held against him as much as it would be if his actions had been perceived as "right-wing" - he won't be a total pariah - but no way he comes out looking better from this for most people, even most Trump-hating liberals.
Blacks, who live where innocents are getting shot and/or murdered and who NEVER get this kind of treatment from the police, don't appreciate that 24, TWENTY-FOUR, detectives were put on this case which turned out to be nothing but one huge HOAX, while cases involving crimes against them and theirs languish.
And most blacks, in Chicago, are virulent homophobes.

I may be wrong. This may make him a pariah but I doubt it. He may do some jail time but I doubt very much, if any.
The Left is already making excuses for him and taking him under their wing. "Poor boy was off his meds, or was on drugs or was delirious with hate for Trump", whatever.

This country would have been much better off had Angela Davis, the Smolletts, Bobby Seale, Bill Ayres, Bernadine Dohrn, et al been locked up for life. They committed treason and were rewarded with university/political jobs to keep the cancer of Communism active in the body politic.

I’m cynical myself, but these stories just further erode the little patience remaining in non-black populations. As whites fade from the scene, the replacements have no patience - and certainly no guilt - in dealing with blacks. The Koreans targeted by blacks in the LA riots, Michael Brown (Ferguson MO) pushing an Indian clerk around as he stole from him, these incidents warn the newcomers of the problems - and they know they themselves certainly aren’t to blame. If anything, they watch seats earned by their children in colleges get handed to non-learning tokens, and then the same occurs in their workplaces; they are done, and these hoaxes just push the last whites into that same acceptance that coexistence is a myth.
