The producers of the Fox drama “Empire” announced Friday that Jussie Smollett’s character would not appear in the final two episodes of the show’s fifth season. The announcement came a day after Chicago police arrested him and said he staged an attack against himself in a bid for publicity.
Following his arrest and release on bail, Mr. Smollett had returned to the set of “Empire” and started filming scenes as his character Jamal Lyon, raising questions of how Fox would handle his presence going forward.
“While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out,” the producers said in a statement. “We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have decided to remove the role of ‘Jamal’ from the final two episodes of the season.”

I have to agree with you. He won’t lose that income. Just like a teacher or government worker with gross violations of conduct gets put on PAID administrative leave.
I guess now he’s regretting all those high dollar evenings in clubs dropping $1000+ a night.

I heard that he was there working last night. So maybe he was finishing up on the 3rd to the last episode.

These folks near and dear to the Smollett family have been waiting a long time for Civil War II to begin. And it is finally happening.

He should have hired a good script writer instead of doing it amateur hour.

Smollett’s story is old news...Lets home Grandma Angela Davis recruits him for some protest so he can protest being exposed as a fraud, conspirator, liar and racist he is.
I have no doubt he will be paid for the entire season as his case will not be adjudicated for many months so it's better if FOX just pays him as $65,000 x 2 is hardly worth a lawsuit. I have to imagine that his contract is annual so they can probably wash their hands of him and simply not renew for next season.
His character will be killed off by some maga hatted Covington students. Lynched with a clothesline.
Maybe the bathrooms on set will be a bit safer to enter.
Yeah, just like how Kevin Spacey went “right back to work” on House of Cards the next season, due to the fact he was liberal and self-identified member of the “LGBT community” so Hollywood protected one of their own.
