In recent days, residents have stumbled upon several animal carcasses and at least two attacks on dogs have been reported.
The recent increase in mountain lion sightings prompted officials with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to alert the Edwards-area to be on high alert.
"This is a troubling situation and we are very concerned for the safety and welfare of the people in this area," CPW Northwest Regional Manager JT Romatzke said in an online statement Thursday.
"We ask everyone to take this warning seriously."
The CPW encouraged locals who spot a big cat in a residential area to alert them immediately and to keep a safe distance.
"We urge residents to be extremely cautious because lions are large, powerful predators and can be very dangerous if they've lost their natural fear of people," CPW District Wildlife Manager Matt Yamashita added in a statement. "We are monitoring the situation very closely."
Based on information they've recieved so far, officials believe there are two female lions that are each traveling with a litter of 3 to 4 juvenile lions though the young lions are "nearly full grown, as large or possibly larger than their mother," the CPW said.

Not smart enough. If they were, we could train them to only take liberals. No one would complain and the cats would be happy. Win-win solution.
Your cat would kill you if they could.
She’s smelling you to make sure you’re still good to eat if necessary.
She IS a mighty predator. Here, she is trying to catch her own tail!
LOL!
“...mountain lion sightings prompted officials with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to alert the Edwards-area to be on high alert....”
You have to warn people who live in mountain lion country to be on the alert for....mountain lions? No wonder Colorado has turned into a blue state.
I had a university biologist in my part of the country tell me “they do not exist in this area” and then said if you have one that becomes a problem practice the 3 S’s if you have to shoot one, with a proviso. He said when you shoot this non-existent creature put the body in a 50 gallon drum and cover the top up with several layers of aluminum foil to block the radio transmitter until you can get it buried far away from your property. This was about 15-years ago.
Living in the country means living with the critters.
Hate to waste my aluminum foil stash on such things though. You never know when aliens are going to show up.
Classic!!?
Where's a big tough Tiger when a feller needs one...?
Attaching that should be no problem. At last we've found a useful job for the womyn's studies majors.
I have no idea who shot it.
Hedy NOT Hedley?
Heavy snow in the hills.
The deer move down into the valley.
Cats follow the food.
Mmmmm. Now we know why that one sock always goes missing.
This poor guy was dead serious lol!
Hey! You should have placed a warning before that clip: For Victor Mature Audiences Only.
