Did you know that Alfred Hitchcock did a cameo in in movies?

Then why does the beautiful Miss Hedren speak so well of him on my new blu-ray dvd?

IIRC, in “The Birds” it was a walk-by with two little dogs exiting a pet store.

He usually did them in opening scenes.

The film was based on a short story, which was pretty good also.

If one thinks about directors like Hitchcock and Tarantino putting their fetishes into their movies, Woody Allen must be one sick little dude. Funny how Hollywood doesn’t care that Tarantino not only loves feet, but also is into strangling and murdering women.

Exactly! She said the real and mechanical birds were also terrifying. There is a really good quote in the book where she says he ruined her career but she was not going to let him ruin her life.

One scene that contributed to Tippi’s real life breakdown was when Hitchcock had some living birds’ wings sewn to her skirt, so it was look like they were attacking her. The PETA folks would have had a field day with Hitchcock.

For my part, I found the movie unsatisfying, almost a predecessor to those 1960s movies that purposefully left the endings opened.

The only worse Hitchcock movie (other than some of his early UK stuff) would be Rope, which wound up being unbearably and stupidly sanctimonious, in a way matched by “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and exceeded only by “Gentleman’s Agreement”.

Hitchcock just previously had lunch with Mel Brooks.

I saw the Birds for the 1st time a few weeks ago and ehhh. I don’t see how it’s a classic.

We never know why the birds go crazy,

There’s no real ending (the movie just seems to stop for no reason),

The chemistry/story between Tippi and the guy and the disapproving mother was forced, however there was strong Lesbian overtones with her & the school teacher that I’m surprised they got away with at the time.

They make beyond belief stupid decisions (hey, all these children are safe in this schoolhouse, so let’s take them outside with all the crazy homicidal birds and try and run back into town which is miles away).

I will say though Tippi was mesmerizing, you just don’t see women look like her today, it was very hard to take your eyes off her.

In “The Rear Window” he was playing the piano in the top left apartment across the way about half way through the movie.

In “North by Northwest” he gets on a bus at the very beginning of the movie in Manhattan.

In “Dial M for Murder” he is in a framed photo that they show briefly sitting around a table.

A movie was made a few years ago about the torture Hitchcock inflicted upon Tippi Hedren during the making of this movie.

I went to see this movie when it first came out at a downtown movie theatre. The theatre was located at a very busy corner with a bus stop filled with people. When we exited the theatre and walked outdoors a flock of pigeons started flying wildly around our heads. We and everyone at the bus stop scattered screaming in fear. I doubt these were trained birds as thus was a favorite hangout of pigeons. Scary at the time, but funny now in hindsight.

Yep, Hitchcock would have definitely been #metoo fodder today.

My first memory like that is being in the theater when Bambi’s mother died.

Years later, I took my son to see ET. Toward the end when ET died, I had tears streaming down my face. Remembering the happy faces of people I saw exiting the movie as we went in, I thought, what kind of crappy people were those? LOL
