The luck of a New Jersey woman who was furloughed during the government shutdown changed dramatically after she won the the largest Pick-6 jackpot since 2004. Judith Smith of Bayonne and her children, William Kenneth Lee Smith and Sarah Jude Smith, were announced Wednesday as the winners of the $29.5 million Dec. 17, 2018 Pick-6 Jackpot, according to a release from the New Jersey Lottery.
Smith, who works as a park ranger at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, bought the winning ticket at Eddys Wine and Liquors in Bayonne, lottery officials said.
When Smith realized that she had just become a millionaire, she had her son return to the liquor store to scan the ticket to confirm that they had picked the lucky numbers.

In NJ legislature has proposed law to keep identity of lottery winners secret.
If she was smart, she would have changed her residency to Florida immediately before she actually RECEIVED the payment in 2019. If she didnt, New Jersey will take a significant (an non-deductible) chunk of her winnings.
She also got all of her back pay for doing nothing. What a country.
It is my understanding that the taxes are based on the time of purchase.
It’s too late for that. That’s not how NJ tax law works. She was a resident when she bought the ticket. Sticky fingers will attach themselves to this tax bill.
Bless your heart! You think NJ would not collect state income tax on NJ winnings regardless of residence!
Hopefully they’ll be on that show on HGTV “My Lottery Dream House”.
We watch that every Friday night. Most of them are people who won $1 million scratch tickets and they buy a house between $150,000 and $400,000. But occasionally they get some big money winners who open the check book pretty wide.
TRUMP’s fault.
It is my understanding that the taxes are based on the time of purchase.

Im not a tax accountant so you may be right. I do know that earnings are not taxed in the year they are earned but in the year they are paid.
Good to be lucky. Did the govt contractors get back pay too? Only in America. Most Americans are lucky to get unemployment and not full pay.
She’s sol in that respect
Heres some good information on constructive receipt (when it applies and when it does NOT).
So this poor victim of Trump’s shutdown had enough money to go to the liquor store and buy a lottery ticket, and probably some liquid refreshments.
thanks for the info

A partial government shutdown where the Democrats took a junket to Puerto Rico and Menendez terrorized beach-goers on the beach by going shirtless ended last month.
yes it did.
She won the lottery twice.
Probably moved to FL and registered Democrat already.
After New Jersy taxes that will be about $3.80.
