Meet JFK's first on-airport hotelcomplete with midcentury modern guest rooms, a 10,000-square-foot rooftop deck with pool, and a Jean-Georges restaurant.
An abandoned airport terminal at New Yorks John F. Kennedy International Airport has been reborn as the TWA Hotel, a stylish stay channeling the jet age. While the once-groundbreaking Trans World Airlines ceased operations in 2001, and the terminal closed in October of that year, the luxe hotel pays homage to the original architecture of the 1962 building designed by architect Eero Saarinen.

I have been through the Saarinen designed TWA at JFK terminal when it was operating. Saarinen had more foresight when he designed the main terminal at Dulles. The structure was easily expanded to accommodate the explosion in air travel while maintaining the integrity of the design.

That’s kind of cool. I travel in and out of the Middle East, a lot. All the airports, since they have state run airlines, also have a hotel as part of the deal, so if you have an extended layover, they’ll give you a room to relax in, instead of waiting in the terminal for 15hours.

"...those were the days..."
When people actually got dressed nicely to fly while travelers possessed manners, grace, and class! Good times.

You forgot: when you could arrive at the terminal 20 minutes before departure and easily make your plane without a strip search.

Well, since getting to JFK any time of the day or night is a nightmare, this isn’t a bad idea.

How cool is that! I love it when old buildings are saved and refurbished. The style isn’t my favorite, but it’s stunning.

Is room 800 still avaiable?
Or is it closed off due to electrical problems?
Was reported that room 800 had best view of the annual fireworks display.

This problem is that anyone who is much under 30 won't understand how to operate them.
There is a Youtube of two teenagers trying to use a dial. I was waiting for them to start hooting and flinging their feces, out of sheer frustration...

The airport Hilton in St Louis is a TWA shrine.
Every room, hallway, entry and restaurant/bar feature large pictures of the TWA fleet at its finest.
Lots of Constellation pix...
