Horse and buggy whips are still in demand....

Seriously, why would I want to own a CD or DVD?

A lot of what I have is out of print hence a CD or DVD.

It is nice to be able to own a physical copy so you don't have to rely on your Internet connection. Ask those who lost media on Plays-for-Sure and iTunes how that worked out.

Because Of rather have the option to watch an enjoyable show as often as I want, instead of paying $3 or $4 each time I watch it, as well as paying for that bandwidth.

For videophiles and audiophiles it does matter. 4K Blu-Ray encoded discs offer the highest bit rate per second image quality of any other digital source (100 to 130 Mbps) and uncompressed .WAV audio (not .mp3 compression). Most people don’t notice or care, until they see a side by side comparison of what they’re missing out on. Streaming on your laptop, tablet or phone is a convenient way to enjoy our favorites, and image and sound matter less on those appliances. BUT when you see a 4K Blu-Ray encoding with Dolby Vision/Samsung HDR10 disc on your OLED or Series 8 4K display at home well now, you’ll understand why some of us are willing to pay for that experience.

The streaming services are about to fragment, unless you want to pay for each studio’s service, a disc may end up being your best option.

So that the studios along with a bunch of hack lawyers don’t control the media and CHARGE you money every time you want to watch something either via a monthly subscription or renting it “pay per view”.

This is the same DIVX SCAM originally cooked up by Circuit City and a bunch of hack lawyers when physical DVD’s were originally seeking to get off the ground and come to market.

You need to do some research on DIVX and Circuit City if you want to understand what is really at stake, and what their end game is.

You know, I have the boxed HD set for Battlestar Galactia, but I still watch it by streaming. Disc handling is too much like work.

So you don't have to pay more than once to watch something you really like. Prices for streaming will go not likely go down once physical media becomes a niche. They will have consumers at their mercy.

And someday many of the movies and shows we enjoy will be edited, censored or banned because someone somewhere is offended. I will be able to watch a Charlie Chan DVD but you will go online and find that the Ministry of Feelz has banned them because Chan wasn't played by an Asian actor.

My answer is: because I spent a small fortune on VHS format movies, then ANOTHER slightly larger fortune on DVDs and BluRay copies of the same movies...

Ain’t doing it again. They got enough of my money. I’d just as soon buy 3-4 BluRay players now before they’re gone.

Didn’t we all go through this with music? L.P’s, then tape, then Cds, which were supposed to have perfect sound and last forever...

Mmmm Hmmmm...ehhh.. No.

You mean apart from them being the *superior* formats for audio and visual quality? Well,Blu Ray is better but you get the idea.

To me if a song or film is worth owning it's worth owning in its best format...and I also like the fact that I can hold it in my hand.

For the same reasons I still own dead tree edition books: I don’t ever have to worry if something I want goes out of circulation and I can resell it if I ever want to.

I am holding out for when movies are inductively downloaded into your brain.

But just the memory is injected. That save you the time of actually watching the movie.

These days, many computers have them slots and ways to get the video to the TV....my DVD player has been gathering dust as it has sat idle on the “entertainment” center for a couple years...I remember when folks were using thumb-thick speaker wires to get “purer sound”....my ears couldn’t hear it them and my eyes and ears aren’t as discriminating as they used to be....
