Madison and Bryant were in separate vehicles and tried to block the 16-year-old driver of Bryant’s stolen vehicle as he stopped at an intersection. The teen tried to flee, backed up and hit one of the brother’s vehicles.

Re-read the article. He was trying to flee IN THE CAR, rammed one, then was shot. If I read correctly, he was still in car, obviously posing a threat while ramming car o flee.

There was a good reason why stealing horses was once a hanging offense; a man separated from his horse could become prey to rattlesnakes, wild beasts and other assorted savages. Stealing somebody’s car in an urban feral area today is not all that different.

I want to feel outraged but its just not happening. They used to hang horse thieves. The car is today’s horse.

The brothers shot a 16-year-old who had stolen a Suburban, and was armed with a three-ton weapon, and was in the act of using it to harm or kill somebody.

Good shoot.

He was in fear of his life trying to escape.

Refer to the case in NY where the guy and his family were in their SUV and ran over a motorcyclist to get away.

I am familiar with the case and it involved people who were in their own car and were being attacted by motorcyclists. This case involves an individual driving a stolen car and attempting to use the stolen car in a manner that endangered citizens attempting to apprehend the driver of said stolen car. I see a distinct difference here.

If thugs hem you in using their vehicles and you fear for your life, what would you do!

This article is incomplete in its writing. It stated the thief tried to flee and while backing up, struck one of the brother’s vehicles. It did not say if he stayed in the car or bailed and tried to run or attack the brothers if they got out.

If they shot him while still in the car he stole and as he was further trying to hit them with it, it is attempted murder on the part of the thief. But if he bailed, and was running away from the scene to escape capture, then the rules change. There is no attack as there is no longer a threat, so there is no self defense. That could be considered murder II as it was not premeditated, or voluntary manslaughter which is about the same. But the magic here is that you cannot fire on a fleeing, unarmed, person unless he is still a threat.

The Alabama stand your ground law say:

A person is justified in using deadly physical force if they believe the other person is:

About to use unlawful deadly physical force.

1. A burglar about to use physical force.
2. Engaged in kidnapping, assault, robbery, or rape.
3. Unlawfully and forcefully entering a home or car, or attempting to remove a person against their will.
4. Breaking into a nuclear power plant.

If he was fleeing, the closest they’ve got is number 2 on the list. But if he was flee, he is no longer engaged in robbery or assault unless he was packing and at ready or engaging the brothers physically. The article doesn’t tell us that or anything after the cars collided. Can’t assume and apply the stand your ground law.

What a dumb headline - “”catching him driving THEIR STOLEN VEHICLE””. Wonder how long it took the writer to come up with that??

We used to hang horse thieves.

I say we should bring back that cultural habit for car thieves.

Have a “hang ‘em where you catch ‘em” warrant.

Hollywood Knights is a seriously underrated movie. A number of actors/actresses got their first big breaks through this movie.

IMO, it ranks up there with Blazing Saddles and Animal House for sheer belly laughs.

On or about 14 Dec 2018, Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit investigators responded just before 9 p.m. Thursday to the shooting in the 1500 block of Skyland Boulevard

The headline made this sound like a weird story. I thought the dead guy stole a vehicle that the brothers had already stolen from a third party.
