There are, however, legitimate reasons to own a pit bull. Guarding a crack house, for example.
our druggie neighbors have a pit. She’s a sweet dog- i know because she runs loose.
we rescued a beautiful dog that was mean to everyone but me. NOT a pit, so you never can tell.
PS not a pitbull fan in general. I just keep away, and if your dog comes on my property, i call animal control.
I’ve posted several stories about dogs in the last couple of years. I was sad to read this story about an unrestrained dog watching a half marathon. Some of you may know that Celeste (a Belgian Malinois K9) runs with me daily. Despite her being restrained off leash by vocal commands and hand signals, She has been trained in bitework, and sensitized to gunfire up to .50 caliber. I would never take her to spectate with me without a leash - there is too much stimulation which could cause her to respond too quickly. Yesterday we were walking off leash and came upon a man with his lab on a leash going the opposite direction. I saw it develop while still 40 yards apart. I called Celeste to me, moved off the path, and I put her in a sit. She showed remarkable restraint. After the man and lab passed, he shouted to me that I did a good job. I told him that was a tribute to Celeste, not me. Anyway, this article reinforces my belief to not expose Celeste to too much stimulation that she forgets her manners and training.

Supposedly only 5% of dog owners bother to train their animal. Even just the basic come/sit/no stuff. Pretty bizarre when you think about the billions spent in the pet industry. Trained dogs are generally happy dogs and fun to be around, untrained dogs are generally miserable and miserable to be around.
