I recently read that we should re-read classics that have bearing on and in our lives.
I was sparked earlier today to consider The Missiles of October and I just finished this captivating two and a half hour docu drama.
I highly recommend you see this again, if you've seen it before and DEFINITELY see it now if you haven't.
What struck me was the comparison between what President Kennedy went through negotiating a serious situation and what our President Trump has, and will continue to go through as we too protect our nation from invasion.
Even Kennedy said, near the end when he and Kruschev were exchanging communiques, that he had to make sure there were "no booby traps" in one of Kruschevs replys !
Grab some popcorn and re-live history ... or forget it.
On The Beach!
???
*****
The Day After, too, though that was quite awhile ago.
Hey, every time I try out something on Netflix it totally sucks and I quit.
Any Freeper out there recommend something on Netflix, something that was great..?
/Discouraged
I’m giving the The Missles of October a try, right now.
Atlas Shrugged. the book, not the movies.
One observation I think interesting, the actors were chosen by a man, a departure from the usual hellywood girl selections.
Devane and Sheen as both Kennedys worked perfectly IMO.
Great movie, mostly forgotten.
Try “The Interview” (1998) Hugo Weaving, Tony Martin and Aaron Jeffery
Ozzie cop drama, good stuff.
To Schleshinger, I think.
I liked the history of Cuba documentary on Netflix called “The Cuba Libre Story”. Very informative, and there are like 8 or 10 episodes.
Also recently watched a documentary about Orson Welles’ struggle to make the film “The Other Side of the Wind”. The documentary is called “They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead” and after the documentary I watched the film. I recommend watching them in that order; the documentary first.
Animal Farm & 1984 were my first thought
as for movies I’d have to go with ‘They Live”
“Shetland” is good if you like crime shows.
.
For all those budding and committed socialists out there, I highly recommend Arthur Koestler’s “Darkness at Noon” - the story of a powerful and haunting portrait of a Communist revolutionary (like out present day socialists) caught in the vicious fray of the Moscow show trials of the late 1930s.
‘
Think of this story as the future of a successful socialist revolution in the US and what glorious things befall present day socialists and SJWs ...
Did you like Missiles of October ?
That was great..! ^_^
What a relief..!
Soooo much of the garbage that I try out these days I end up hating.
If I go to the theaters and I walk out, I don’t walk out mad, but....about 70% of the time I walk out and have to try out a different movie, maybe even two times.
Once I re-stared it the other day, I couldn't stop.
Another one I'll re-watch sometime this week is AMERICAN STORY - THE BATTLE OF ATHENS
Looking for booby traps in Kruschevs letter and looking for booby traps in the democrat bill ?
I'm pretty sure President Trump has always been too busy and disinterested to actually sit and watch a movie (and maybe read books since college days), but I suspect he's getting a good refresher course by someone like us.
This Sheen?
yes ... I know he’s a lefty puke, but he played Bobby Kennedy to a T (I’m a native Bostonian)
When I would mention “duck and cover” my kids would look at me funny.
