The 10 Most Overrated Musical Artists of All Time
PJ Media ^ | 13 Feb 2019 | Chris Queen

Posted on 02/14/2019 2:04:22 PM PST by Rummyfan

Not long ago, I wrote about the most overrated hits songs of all time. I love compiling lists like those because they allow me to get in touch with my snarky side as well as rant a little. In that post four months ago, I mused about doing a list of overrated artists. Well, the time has come.

Here are the ten most overrated musical artists of all time. Don’t get me wrong: I like some of the music by some of these artists, and though there are only a few bands and solo performers I completely despise, you’ll find that I don’t hold back on how little I care for many of the folks on this list.

Believe me, I’m aware that I’m going to ruffle some feathers with this list. I’m fine with that, because taste in music is always subjective. But as you read the list, keep an open mind and see if you agree with me. And even if you don’t, just have fun reading it

Carlos Santana, even when he is sober.

I can understand why anyone would consider "John Couger Mellonhead" overrated, but I also think he produced one of the most underrated songs of the last 30 years: Key West Intermezzo

That was pretty good, and a creative video, if a bit dated by now. I'm a fan of "Jackie and Diane." Love the music, and the lyrics really spoke to me.

Bruce Springsteen

1. Bruce Springsteen

Had no idea I shared this universe with so many. God, the boy has annoyed me over the years -- and, worse, his fans.

Might be worth a "Springsteen Sucks" ping list.

She and her contemporaries aren’t musical artists.

Agreed. They are all just cookie-cutter replicas, singing basically the same songs, doing the same "dance" moves, with the same backup dancers.

This became incredibly apparent to me when I was watching the latest "A Star is Born" with Lady Ga Ga. In the movie, she started out as a talented singer working with Bradley Cooper as something of a folk/western duo. Then, she got "discovered" and was turned into a Katy Perry/Britney Spears pop rock clone that the masses lap up like a cat with a bowl of milk. She could have had a voice like Yoko Ono, and the electronics whizzes would have transformed her voice to sound like any other clone.

Peter Frampton was in Humble Pie which is one of the best rock bands of all time.

Here we go, ALL DISCO. best day ever was Comiskey Park and burning those crap albums including the Bee Gees. I could go ion but won’t. Disco just crashed rock music in to a sequined cocaine wall.

Michael Jackson I never could understand his appeal. He should be at the top of the list.

Not my taste, either, but it was good time music that you could dance to. His more mature solo albums were very original, and his own dancing was groundbreaking -- he was compared to Fred Astaire, whom he emulated.

I was amazed that of the 58 on the top RIAA list posted at 92 upthread, only 5 were African-Americans: Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, 2Pac, and R. Kelly. Not even Prince was on that list, which must have been limited to a certain time period, because what about the huge successes of A-A artists in the R&B and Motown era?

CCR was part of the Bakersfield sound and not southern rock as this dumba$$ writer suggests.

Haven been able to stomach the guy from his first album, and I was born in NJ. One of the reasons I was always suspicious of Chris Christ,LOL. Hey Impala, my dad had a 64 Impala SS, canary yellow with a black convertible and black interior, traded his 62 white on white convertible T-Bird for it new.

The only song by Imagine Dragons that I've really heard is "Radioactive", and I kind of like that one, mainly because the music video for it is so darned creative ...

RADIOACTIVE

If there’s one band that’s gotten popular with genuinely original, quality music since [Nirvana destroyed music], I have not heard of it.

It's a desert out there. Other than gospel and classical music, the only pop album I've bought in this century is Coldplay's Viva la Vida, but then I'm a female.

The Doors were great. But it is very hard to listen to Morrison’s recorded drunk performances.

I hate when drunks pronounce a word like nation, for example, as nay-shawn, emphasis on the shawn. Drunk JM was into that. Gives me the creeps, lol.
