I don't think he has anything to fear from the cops. They will never call this a hoax. They may do what they are, which is leak the weird details and make it clear that it's a hoax but he'll never be charged. Too much blowback if he was.

Hiring a PR firm is a sign that he's getting feedback that nobody believes him anymore. He's doing spin now to preserve his public image, not stay out of jail. IMHO.
