This dance studio is where Larson comes to feel empowered occasionally via the outstretching of jazz hands and that means you can spare her any "you-go-girl" lines or confetti cannons full of condescension. Yes, she is playing the title role in the more than $150 million Captain Marvel, the 21st movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and first ever from the wildly successful Disney division to be fronted by a woman. But, three years after she won an Oscar for her performance in the indie drama Room, the 29-year-old actress is confident enough to reject your media narrative about box office stakes and the fate of women and blah blah blah because Larson has read this story before and she knows how it ends.
"There's this sense of setting this thing up," Larson says. "I know it's exciting and fun to be like, 'Will it sink or will it float?' 'What's going to happen?' 'Can women exist in the world?' 'We're not sure yet!' But women have been opening movies since the silent era. We have been part of every major art movement. People just push us away once the movement gains momentum and act like we were never really there."

Only her plastic surgeon knows for sure.
I predict a huge box office flop.
Captain Marvell isn’t a woman, sorry.
If you right click on her photo you see bigger bosums....
#38 she must have been doing the breast stroke while swimming.
I've seen you state that several times in this thread. Makes me wonder if you have some financial interest in it or something.
I will not see it. I will encourage others not to see it. It is Social Justice Warrior crap, and it encourages very bad delusions.
Brie Larson would be beaten by any average man in the USA. It is dangerous to women for them to be portrayed as "Warriors" or attempting to fight men physically.
It is also destructive to the culture.
LOL! Hubby and I did exactly that. He hadn't watched the Captain America movies, so he wanted to watch them. I told him that getting the full Captain America story would require looking at the Avengers Movies as well. Also, I told him we would have to watch Thor:Ragnarok before Infinity War because the last scene of Ragnarok is basically the first scene in Infinity War.
It really isn't an addiction. It is a saga. It has many chapters, and the tale will be complete with the final Endgame movie this April.
Hubby and I actually enjoyed doing this, the total number of movies came to 8.
“She’s a man, baby!”
The only financial incentive I have in this movie is, if it does as well as I expect, it will help make more superhero movies. The Marvel movies have shown I imagined for decades while reading comics. I have a bunch. My collection is at worth five figures. I lost count at 20,000.
I’m a comic book geek. I have been seen the late ‘50’s. I was with Marvel since day 1. I gave up comic books more than 20 yrs ago mostly because they let political correctness overwhelm their common sense.
Not to say there weren’t or can’t be great female heroes—there have been. But most of them have been duds.
I’m not interested in social justice warriors any more than you. And, in my opinion, it would be a huge mistake to make to allow that to take over their movies.
There is risk associated with the Captain Marvel movie-and it is exactly what you said-they let social justice take over. Actually I expect it will happen. I’m paying attention, and those movies I will ignore.
Meantime, I’m very glad to know that Marvel movies will soon have the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises. There are can’t-miss stories to be told. l look forward to it.
Womenkind have it better in America than any other place, any other time.
So of course they use that unprecedented freedom to complain bitterly about it.
It will not bomb. It is the penultimate film in an arc of 22 films, and is directly tied to the last: Avengers Endgame.
Phase 4 - or whatever they decide to call it - may end up going Solo if they keep ramping up the overt SJW propaganda.
Carol Danvers, USAF as I recall, was introduced just a couple issues after Mar-Vell, Kree warrior, debuted, both c. 1968.
They became personally involved, also as I recall. An alien technology explosion imbued her with his DNA, hence his powers, c.1977.
She became Ms. Marvel. He eventually died. Another female character became Captain Marvel for a time. Danvers eventually donned the persona as advised by Captain America, c. 2012. This is all within Marvel Comics.
The very original Captain Marvel was Fawcett, long before. DC sued them in the ‘50s for stealing Superman and calling him a different name. DC won.
CM comic books eventually died - along with all superhero comics except The Big Three (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman), in the aftermath of the Red Scare and the Senate hearings inspired by Seduction of the Innocent, a condemnation of superhero comic books as subversive to children, leading to the Comics Code Authority and the taming of the sexual and violent imagery (think: pulp, noir) previously prevalent.
Timely became Marvel in 1961, reintroduced superhero content (The Fantastic Four, et al) and subsequently appropriated the trademark rights to the name, Captain Marvel.
When DC ironically decided to resurrect their former publishing nemesis, they could not call him Captain Marvel. They renamed him Shazam, after the magic word used to conjure him.
I will give Marvel this: Carol Danvers has been part of Marvel Comics’ milieu, and directly linked to their Captain Marvel, since the ‘60s. They did not create her now to satisfy SJWs, although they are revising her character to do just that.
See 71 for history.
I once would have. But they have already turned 40ish Reed Richards, seasoned and serious, into a snarky 18 yo, and turned Sue Storm into an adopted sibling and daughter.
Phase 4 is likely going to be egregious leftist propaganda, which may trigger a Solo-like reaction from fans.
Disney to crash another franchise
“But they have already turned 40ish Reed Richards, seasoned and serious, into a snarky 18 yo, and turned Sue Storm into an adopted sibling and daughter.”
Fox version which were horrible. Possibly the most embarrassing superhero movies of all time. I fully expect Kevin Feige to resurrect them.
You are certainly entitled to boycott it and urge others to do so - but to insinuate someone has an ulterior financial motive simply for making a prediction you happen not to like is ridiculous. (Makes me wonder if you are subject to paranoia.)
I predict it will be a blockbuster hit - not because I want it to be, but because I actually know both the comic-book publishing industry and comic-book cinematic industry.
I no longer collect, but I collected comics before it was a recognized cultural phenomenon. See my other posts on this thread. They were written from memory.
I suggest you not impute devious motives to someone merely for voicing a personal prediction. It is not only offensive, it is absurd.
I understand your point. My point is that Phase 4 has already been heralded as, The Future Is Female, with attendant, obligatory so-called Diversity.
Marvel has the talent to do it right, but I think they lack the desire to do it right. They are Disney. Look at what Disney has done to Star Wars.
I share your concerns. I trust in Feige, but I’m sure he feels the pressure from the SJWs. Time will tell how he adapts.
Star Wars is a different story. They put some a-hole woman, who should be banished from making movies, in charge and, in my opinion, that franchise is a mess and continues to fall apart. Political correctness at its worst.
Captain Marvel has been around since the 60s.

BS. I was reading CM comics in the late ‘40s! I recall that around age 4-5 I sent maybe 25 cents and received a CM cape in the mail. I’d run around in the yard pretending I was flying.
That mustve been Fawcett Comics Captain Marvel who became Shazam.
