Amazon may not be coming to Long Island City after all.
The e-commerce giant is reconsidering its plans to open a new 25,000-employee office in the Queens, New York neighborhood, the Washington Post reported on Friday. Two people familiar with the companys thinking told the Post that Amazon was turned off by growing local opposition to the deal, which has been building up since Amazon announced it would be building part of its so-called second headquarters in the Queens neighborhood last November.
The question is whether its worth it if the politicians in New York dont want the project, especially with how people in Virginia have been so welcoming, a source familiar with the matter told the Post.

What Amazon is doing is actually ridiculous, not illegal. They're asking these governments to give them all kinds of tax concessions even though the tax breaks have nothing to do with their decision.
Amazon was always going to open these headquarters in NYC and Virginia even if they got $0 in tax breaks.
If they are reconsidering their decision about the NYC location, it means they probably figured it's an extraneous waste of money.
Actually the locals are mad that Amazon is getting HUGE PUBLIC SUBIDIES when their water, sewer and public transit systems are going to pot.
I thought they made a very good case.
Well maybe they should stop electing the same socialist political hacks
Jeff has to split his pile in half. This aint over yet!
> Amazon is trying to extort the taxpayers of NYS. How the Hell is this not illegal?!? <
I’ve wondered about that since forever. In my neck of the woods, we have many small stores. They all pay their property taxes, like everyone else.
Then a strip mall came in. They sell the same stuff as those small stores. The mall got a 20-year property tax holiday. How is that not unequal treatment under the law?
BTW, NYS has already poured billions down the bribery rathole. In addition to the moral hazard, it’s lousy economics. Long term, it does not work.
Why open in a very high tax area? Go where you aren’t taxed to death.
Can we lay this at the feet of Occasional-Cortex?

Well, she did just say people should get paid even if they are unwilling to work so......
Pard, I blame companies, too. They know damn well what’s being done in their name, and they’re cool with that.
Without trying to sound rude, why would you want any more liberals in that state?
Especially the arrogant, liberal hipster, AOC types that work for him.
Here is my thoughts on it: One side is trying to save its own resources; the other is spendthrift with their constituents resources.
If the politician stopped this crap, it would be over. The businesses do not force politicians to do this.
Now, if the businesses are bribing the politicians, that is another issue altogether.
How is he extorting them?
heh. nice HG REFERENCE
Repeat after me: all tax cuts are good.
Yup, and the dunce seems to be trying to drive down his own stock prices to minimize what his wife will get.
He’s been thinking with his penis so long he doesn’t realize that a lawyer as good as she can afford will just have her take shares of stock...which will just go back up.
Jeff has lost his marbles.
And, while not illegal, some of his upper level management already purchased some real estate, before they told the world they were moving there, so they could get better deals. Because they knew prices would skyrocket, especially when all you do is brag that every job is a 6 figure one. Nothing like taking advantage of some inside information.
They’re all hypocrites. Each and every single one of them.
A subsidy is a direct payment or grant. A tax beaks is not a subsidy.
I believe tax-wise, Amazon would be a net positive for NYC.
And in NYC it's the AOC types who don't agree with it.
Why not just open them in prisons? Those facilities are already perfectly designed to match Amazon’s normal workplace environment.
No one is against negotiating the best possible deal. People are against not having any input on a deal that will cost them millions, when they had no say in it, all to make up the ‘give aways’ that Cuomo and DeBlasio provided. Yes, some will make some money selling to some hipster, techie that works there. Others will be run out because they can’t afford it anymore, based on a shady deal, done in a backroom.
This deal took the extortion that professional team owners use for stadiums/arenas, to a different level.
