Just 58 percent of Americans are against blackface while 42 percent either condone it or are unsure, a new poll has found.
Between Saturday and Tuesday, YouGov polled 1,500 adults in the United States, asking, Is it acceptable or unacceptable for a white person to wear blackface makeup?
The majority found it unacceptable but 26 percent were unsure. The remaining 16 percent said it was acceptable.
YouGov found more of a disparity in answers among political parties. Twenty-nine percent of Republicans said they are OK with blackface, compared with just 6 percent of Democrats. Sixteen percent of independents found it acceptable.

I’m more offended by infanticide than what was (probably) just an offensive joke.
I don’t give a rats a** either way. It also doesn’t bother me if blacks wear whiteface. Never done it myself, but hey, that’s just me
Just more PC nonsense!
Wearing blackface is racially insensitive, so a man wearing women’s clothing is...?
How do they feel about Greenface?
I’m Gumby dammit!
I honestly don’t care.
Great point.
“It also doesnt bother me if blacks wear whiteface.”
People thought it was cute and quirky when Michael Jackson went all culturally inappropriate and bleached his skin white. Why aren’t WE offended? (Answer: We don’t give a crap.)
The ones who’ve done blackface were having fun, not putting down blacks. Anyhow, isn’t imitation the sincerest form of flattery?
Didn’t Hollywood make a movie, starring Ernest Borgnine, where the lead actor dressed up as a black man, just to experience life as a black person?
I forget the title of the movie. But, isn’t Hollywood guilty of doing that which is now immoral and unethical and soon to be illegal? Not illegal now, but people are paying with heavy repercussions and penalties now, while it wasn’t illegal or immoral or insensitive or racist years back.
James Whitmore, “Black Like Me.”
How many Americans area against men pretending to be women and women pretending to be men??????????
what offends me more is gay men dressing up as women for entertainment value.......and not is a funny crazy way, but in a serious way...
What if it's like a "life choice" or something... Wouldn't that be like deciding I wasn't a man, but a woman, or something??? Who's to say?
Isn't this sort of the same thing?
Orange Man bad.
