PERKASIE A 13-month old girl who was seriously injured when the family dog attacked the child and her mother remains hospitalized but is showing improvement, the Perkasie Borough Police Department said the afternoon of Feb. 1.
We did get word this afternoon that the baby victim is responding well to medical treatment, which is good news, Perkasie police Chief Steven Hillias said.
Officers responding to the 400 block of Grandview Avenue in Perkasie about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 found the child with serious bite wounds on multiple areas of her body and her mother with bite marks on her hands, arms and legs, police said.
The child was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a Philadelphia hospital, where she underwent surgery and was in critical condition Jan. 31, police said.
A female neighbor heard the screams when the attack happened and responded to help, police said. A male passing motorist, who police called heroic, stopped and interrupted the attack, saving the toddler, police said.
Unfortunately, he himself suffered a serious leg injury after falling on the ice and snow while struggling with the dog. He refused medical care until the injured child was treated, the Perkasie Borough Police Department said on its crimewatchpa.com page.
Investigation of the incident is continuing, but it appears to be a tragic accident and more information will be posted as developments arise, police said.
The dog is in confinement, Hillias said.

The dogs breed has not been released, but there has been comment on social media, he said.
I find that curious because what matters most is the baby, the mother, the good Samaritan, Hillias said.
He said hes proud of the local community, both for the response of the good Samaritan When a person was in need, one of our citizens didnt think twice and the well wishes for the family that have been conveyed through social media.
The family involved and the good Samaritan are not ready to speak publicly and it is asked that their privacy be respected, police said.
3..2..1
not bad breeds, bad dog owners
BS
I hear Michael Vick had some real deals when selling his pit bulls.
LOL! Pet me or D-I-I-I-E!
appears to be a tragic accident
The dog was an aspiring rapper.
You’re comparing Michael Vick to Tia Torres? Vick did not have a rescue operation.
No kidding!! What a great man!
I’m going out on my own here with, Basset Hound!
Good choice!...................They are vicious!..............
All the more reason to hold the critter to see if symptoms develop.
You misspelled ripper...
“All the more reason to hold the critter to see if symptoms develop. “
Symptoms? That would be too late. The only way they can test for rabies is after death-—the dog should be put down-—and tested.
.
I’m OK with that.
“It was probably a poodle or Chihuahua”
It was a “Perkasie”. (per the article) /s
I know. never met a golden who didn’t love everybody, except my friends goldie who doesn’t like the UPS guy
What about FedEx?.......................
Difference between the first three dogs and the fourth? You can kick any of the three into the next room, and they won’t come back. But the fourth one will just shake it off and keep attacking. I know there are some wonderful, sweet pit bulls, but when that breed attacks, it can not only maim, but kill. I’m not going to convince pit bull lovers that they should be outlawed, and they’re not going to convince me that they shouldn’t. It’s a tired argument, and until a pit bull lover is seriously injured by one, most will continue to deny they need to be banned.
I work down the street from an animal shelter.
Every day at lunch, volunteers walk the dogs past our building and parking lot.
Just yesterday I counted 4 Pit Bulls in a group of 5 dog walkers...........................
So true. Concentrated little bundles of evil. If one were ever bitten by a radioactive Great Dane and acquired proportionate size and strength, it would deserve its own remake of Cujo.
Goldens are the best, but I do remember the meanest dog I ever met as a kid was a golden. Something was wrong with that dog.
