Germany to fall short of 2020 climate goals: report

Germany will likely fall well short of its targets for greenhouse gas reduction by 2020, a climate protection report released by the government on Wednesday concluded.

While the main conclusion of the report was made public in November, the release of the 147-page report comes as the German government is renewing debate among itself and with industry leaders about the best courses of action to take to reduce its greenhouse emissions. […]

The spokesman for Angela Merkel’s government, Steffen Seibert, said the government seconded the report’s emphasis that the 40 percent target must “be reached as quickly as possible.”

Environment Minister Svenja Schulze called for more “courage” and binding regulation in climate policies: “When it comes to climate protection, in the past years Germany as whole has not been on course to reach its goals, despite some improvements in the energy sector.” …

Too busy postponing their NATO payments while building gas pipelines with Russia.

This morning’s headlines in Germany suggest that the France are now maneuvering the EU around to halt the Russian pipeline into Germany. No one expected that angle.

Part of the urgency over getting the pipeline up and operational....they will need a fallback position for the electrical grid once they start shutting down the nuclear and coal powered stations. Some people expect more natural gas powered stations (very costly), and it could only occur if the Russian natural flows in. Without that fallback position....the Germans would have to buy nuke power off of France (giving the French economy in the next twenty years a tremendous boost if they can stop the pipeline from Russia).

Maybe they can remedy the situation by inventing a new really long german word that translates roughly to the angst one feels from not meeting climate goals despite one’s best efforts.

Wouldn’t have, sadly, happened if they had signed onto the Paris Accord...

OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Germany should just purchase “green credits” and claim they have meet their guidelines. It’s what the beer companies that advertised during the Superbowl that claim their beer is brewed with 100% wind power when they used fossil fuel to brew their swill.

Yep. Dumbest crap commercial about Budweiser now being brewed by wind power.

Showed wind turbines and I said they have now gone from Budweiser to Birdwaster.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions

In 2015 Germany was responsible for 2.16% of global fossil fuel CO2 emissions.

Cutting that in half ain’t gonna do diddly in the grand scheme of things. (As if it even mattered at all, which is highly debatable.)

Crippling the economy on that basis is nothing short of criminal.

Germany closed down its nuclear reactors after the Fukushima reactor incident. As a result, they’ve had to rely more heavily on coal. No wonder they’re not meeting their climate goals.

“Environment Minister Svenja Schulze called for more “courage” and binding regulation in climate policies”

right. go right ahead and promulgate binding draconian measures and see how long your party remains in power ...
