This is quite scary. I was thinking about how glad I was that *I* had never dressed in blackface for halloween and then I thought, oh my, I think I HAVE!
Will everybody who’s ever dressed in blackface please stnad up?
Born in the South. Raised around the world. Grew up in the South. White.
Not one time in my entire life did I ever even think for a moment to do black face, or wear a sheet. For Halloween or otherwise.
I never even wore a sheet to be a ghost. It just never entered my mind. Pirate. Stormtrooper. Soldier. That's my bag, baby!
Okay, once I did a skeleton. Forgive me. I did WhiteFace.
kek and LOL.
Let's all lighten up. No wait. We can't say that. Raciss.
Let's all just...be happy. Together. And pray for God to get us through the heavy parts.
Time: late 70s and early 80s.
Although not an all encompassing statement, the “blackface” thing was pretty much played out north of 37. The humor was gone for several reasons, the result of “The Great Migration” being chief among them.
It remained in the south and slave states because of the remnants of copperhead democrats, Klan members and the old redneck cultures still around.
