What is it? A new minor league to test American's appitite for football and give players a chance to audition for the NFL. Founded by Charlie Ebersol and former NFL executive Bill Polian.
What are the teams and their head coaches?
Eastern Conference
Atlanta Legends, Kevin Coyle
Birmingham Iron, Tim Lewis
Memphis Express, Mike Singletary
Orlando Apollos Steve Spurrier
Western Conference
Arizona (Tempe) Hotshots, Rick Neuheisel
Salt Lake Stallions, Dennis Erickson
San Antonio Commanders, Mike Riley
San Diego Fleet, Mike Martz
Did they put a lot of thought into these team names?? Probably not.
How do you watch it? The inugaral game, San Diego at San Antonio, is on CBS, Saturday FEB 9th, 8:30 Eastern Standard Time (pre game at 8). There are 4 games a week, one a week will air on CBS Sports Network, Memphis at Birmingham at 4 eastern on Sunday FEB 5th, the rest will available on the AAF app for free.
Are the rules different from NFL? There are no kickoffs, teams will begin possesions on their own 25 yard line. There are no PAT kicks, teams will attempt 2-point conversions after each touchdown. There will be no TV time outs and fewer commercials. The play clock is 35 seconds instead of 40. Overtime will be "High School rules" each team gets a possention on their own 10 yard line, games end in tie if still tied after that. I don't much care for elimination of kickoffs cause I know the NFL wants to follow suit, they've already tried hard to ruin them so no one will care when they are abolished. No PATs probably makes it more interesting though.
Where can you find more info? The internet. https://aaf.com/schedule
Will this be the thread for the whole season or will it be weeky or whatever? That depends on interest level, my whims, and the whims of anyone else that might like to post AAF threads.
Is there a picks contest? I don't plan on it but feels free to make picks!!!
Should you care? Only if you want to. Feel free to just ignore the thread if you don't! Or you could troll it, whatever you want.
Even a snow storm cannot keep the Apollos from rolling on over Salt Lick 20 - 11. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I limp along 1 and 1—
Well, Big, file this under "Never a Dull Moment!"
Just after noontime I heard sirens, got up and threw on something warm as it is 39 degrees outside my humble abode, got my keys, opened the door and found numerous fire trucks in the street in front--
Seems there was a very smoky fire right next door, about 5 feet from where my car was parked.
I got my car a safe distance away then hurried as fast as my two feet and quad cane could go to get back into my place and grab what valuables I could. Then I got out, locked the door and went to my car.
To make a long short short, the firemen got the fire under control and what is mine is safe and sound. I am back in my usual lair letting all y'all know about it.
So, no sob story to follow nor any claims to need cold hard cash--
Wait a minute, we can all always always use cold, hard cash.
So, that's my tale and I'm stocking to it!
Yeah, I'm sticking to that, too!
Gadzooks!! Must have been them godless Antifarians trying to smoke you out. Glad you are safe and sound...err safe.
Yeah-- Them nocount peckerwoods never give up--
Another ‘big’ crowd in Birmingham I see. Most of ‘em are wearing the same color shirt. Seat green.
And you... didn't burn up in a fire!!!
Orlando RULES,
The Utah game was played in snow to any essentially empty stadium. Can’t say I blamed the fans, given the weather.
RE: Cant say I blamed the fans, given the weather.
Football is supposed to be played in snow. Wimpy fans who let a bit of snow stop them from getting to the game.
Utah might be a little far north for a winter franchise, but I wish them well.
And Dalleen says for y'all... to listen up--
Y'all that say a tie is like kissing your sister, I say... you must'a ain't never kissed my sister Darleen!
Two scores ahead... our boys!
Gadzooks, Big, not today... NO FIRE, PLEASE!!!
