Our pets are family. We love them with all our hearts, and it is difficult saying goodbye. Very difficult A new pet not only gives a rescue dog or cat a home, but very soon Is family, too. Lucky us and lucky pet being so loved!

That’s the only thing you can do.
Once you’re a dog person, to be without a dog is simply not doable.
The love of a dog heals the loss of a dog.
I’ve got a friend with a male American Pulldog. Very sweet. Bit of a giant ham, but very sweet. He’s buddies with my male white shepherd.

Poor Michael, I hope he makes it through. He’ll need a new dog same breed as the Teddy asap.

‘’.. often more than a human bereavement’’. So true, so true. In the last year my elderly mother-in law passed away after a stroke at the age of 97 and a month later my widowed father passed away after a long illness at the age of 89. I was saddened of course but both had lived long fruitful lives, they were in failing health and both had longed to be reunited with their long lost spouses. It was time to let go. As humans we understand death comes to us all. But I think sometimes we fail to appreciate that it comes to our animal friends and because dogs are perhaps, next to humans, the most mood affective animals on Earth we're pained even more because we feel they don't know of death but science tells they do. In any case it's because dogs love us unconditionally and it hurts to see that unconditional love be taken away.

The bond between my Border collie/Sheltie and me is so strong he even sighs when I sigh. No human would do that.
Rest in peace, Teddy. Condolences to Michael.

Your post reminds me of a sign I saw recently for the front door.

I cried when I did it. Hurts like Hell, often more than a human bereavement.
A human death you have no control over and so you grieve then move on.
For a beloved pet, you're the one holding their life in your hands and it's your decision only......I hate these threads.

Rest in peace, Teddy!
You were like the prophet Nathan's little lamb for Dr. Savage!
