Our first trip to Georgia had us staying in a hotel next to a Waffle House. We went there for breakfast every morning. I would get tired just watching that cook work, and he was taking every order verbally and just remembering what to cook. Never saw him mess up an order. It was a treat to watch.

I really started to love them when I sent my daughter to UA, to learn manners. A little old black lady, who cooked at a truck stop I liked to eat at gave me her recipe, half milk, half water. Loved them ever since.
There are diners in New York City that serve all the dishes that Waffle House serves, including grits.
Never liked grits or polenta or cream of wheat or oatmeal
Something about the consistency of them that is not appetizing to me.
