With singer Gladys Knight having performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl, there was contention by some who wished she had not given the controversy surrounding Colin Kaepernick.
She defended her decision to preform [sic] on Friday during her interview on CNN.
“People are going to have their opinions. You know, about whatever. And all I can deal with, all I can deal with right now is what my heart says. Okay? I believe in fairness,” Knight explained. “I believe in truth. I believe in all of those things, and as far as this is concerned, I grew up with the national anthem. We used to sing it in school before school started. We used to say prayers in school before school started, and we just don’t have that anymore and I’m just — I’m just hoping that it will be about our country and how we treat each other and being the great country that we are.”

My sister saw a Pip-less Gladys Knight concert about five years ago. She was surprised; it was one of the best concerts she’s ever attended.
Gladys' "career" is well established and invincible.

I watched it...mentioned to friend it did not look lip synced. She looked, sang, and acted fabulously.

It's fascinating. One island which is quite successful is Curacao. They're an autonomous nation under the Dutch crown. I took the walking tour. It was interesting to learn how wily they've been (so far) at keeping ties to the Netherlands and use of their expertise in keeping things going.
Wait? So she gets invited to be part of an elite group of performers (1 out of 53 so far) at an event that celebrates some of the HIGHEST PAID and predominantly African American (70% of the players) participants and she’s getting flack?
Curacao interests me too, though I don’t think I’ll visit while the Venezuela meltdown is ongoing. Black culture in America is different than any other in the world. Thanks to the democrats, whose sole skill seems to be misplacing blame. Slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, Trail of tears, internment of Japanese, KKK, etc. It’s all them, yet somehow they’ve convinced the American blacks that the Republicans are to blame. It’s absurd.
