I have a soft spot for the WWII movies made prior to 1945 when nobody was sure yet how things were going to end.Interesting...

My all-time favorite movie.Me too. I have it on DVD and still have an old 8 track tape {but nothing to play it on}.
I know every line almost word for word, but it is always entertaining.
The old time censorship did not detract from movies, it just made you use your imagination.

The greatest performance ever captured on film. The best scene was Jose Ferrer at the after-party. "I'm a lot drunker than you, so it will be a fair fight."

Im 64. I have NEVER SEEN Casablanca. Same here, I'm ashamed to say. I just never had a burning desire to see a movie that was made ten years before I was born.

One of my favorite movies of all time.
There are so many great lines of dialogue but my favorite remains...
Renault: I’ve often speculated why you don’t return to America. Did you abscond with the church funds? Did you run off with a Senator’s wife? I like to think that you killed a man. It’s the romantic in me.
Rick: It’s a combination of all three.
Renault: And what in Heaven’s name brought you to Casablanca?
Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
Renault: The waters? What waters? We’re in the desert.
Rick: I was misinformed.

For which we should be grateful.
Hollywood today would cast
Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz
with the piano player going to Justin Bieber.
And of course, the policeman would be Robert De Niro. Close. According to IMdb, Madonna pitched a remake of the film to the studios with her as Ilsa Lund and Ashton Kutcher as Rich Blaine. They shot her down, all of them. One studio exec said, "That film is deemed untouchable." I hope that's right and I hope it's always right.

The plane in the final tarmac scene was hastily thrown together on a limited budget.....it as not a full-size plane. So they hired midgets to act as on-screen airplane personnel to make the plane seem larger than it really was. It had to be filmed in a hanger, there were night time light restrictions due to WW2, so they couldn't film at an actual airport. That's why they use a model plane and midget.

I cant imagine what it was like to be under occupation like that.Morocco and all the other Overseas Colonies were under the administration of Vichy France, and hence were not under occupation.
However, they were very - ahem! - cooperative with the Nazi regime.

The Big Sleep and Casablanca are two of my favorites as well.
Always thought The Big Sleep was better than The Maltese Falcon.
I also love “This Land is Mine” with Charles Laughton.
