RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - The Metro Richmond Zoo recently welcomed seven new cheetah cubs.

Vaila, a second-time mother, gave birth to septuplets on Nov. 30.

The zoo says all seven cubs are doing great and growing fast at their cheetah breeding facility. They plan on moving the cubs into the zoo sometime in March and will make an announcement when they can be seen on exhibit.

"This is a very special birth to us because not only is it a big boost for cheetah conservation by increasing the captive population, but also a cheetah having 7 cubs at once only happens 1 percent of the time!" the zoo said.

An example of the prolific nature of African breeding.

Their species is so inbred, it’s genetically shortened.

They’re so cute, and they grow-up so fast, and the you’re their lunch and dinner.

That’s great news - cheetahs are super-endangered - would be a shame to lose an animal that can attain 75 mph on land.
