There was once a time when 90% of the people in this country were engaged in agriculture.
Time marches on.
Yeah, me too. And I was one of the earliest Amazon Associates.... I sold a couple hundred books of theirs through links from my book review site that I used to operate. Never saw a penny of my supposed pittance of a percent of sales from them.
And when they later branched out and let "Associates' have little stores on Amazon, I sold a couple of hundred bucks of stuff through them.... Never saw a penny of it.
And when I tried to formally close my store there.... they wouldn't allow it. It still exists in cyberspace, despite it not having anything in it.
"McKenzie Bezos, who helped start the company, is several inches taller then Jeff....soooo...MACKENZIE IS THE AMAZON.
Should be worth several billion extra in the divorce that splits the fortune in WA, a community property state."
Heh, good one.
I miss “Nerd Books”, I used to love making the trek out to Richardson to their store, any technical book, they had it.
Never saw a dime? That’s actionable, I would think.
What a disgrace that rotten company is.
If he’s paying taxes he’s giving to charity. And who cares is his money
If Bezos was telling the world he gives generously to charities but then doesn’t, there is something to talk about. Otherwise, it’s his wealth to do with as he pleases.
I did the reviews out of love for books anyway, so any money would have been "gravy'
And on my little store there, The situation was similar, the fees ate up the money from sales before I qualified for the $100 minimum check amount. I was doing a couple of thousand a month of the same stuff on eBay at the time, so the Amazon store was just an attempt at expansion... and what I was selling, I'll admit was not a good fit with what people generally thought of when they went to Amazon.
It was all a pittance anyway, so I just wrote it off as gained experience, not worth fighting over.
Id like to know where its written that people with lots of money HAVE to give lots of it away.
Exodus 20:17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
It’s nobody’s business what he is worth and what he gives away. And I still think the guy’s a jerk.
so what? It’s their money
Yep, this is just stupid gamma crap if conservatives are going to pull these stunts. He isnt givng to lefty causes then, which is what would happen. So far he has been one of the least evil of the tech giants.
I guess I/we got off topic a bit, as this politician isn’t talking anything about tithing. He is just talking about “So what’s in if for me?”
It would seem that he should be happy that a business would come in and employ folks and pay property taxes and business fees. (In my town, businesses have to pay a head tax for each employee).
My dad had wealthy cousin in Norway. They have a tax on expensive items that you have to pay every year! Fancy cars, boats, second homes, etc. And then of course on any dividends from investments. The cousin paid more in taxes than his salary was! Although I’m guessing he had things structured so that some/much of his income was hidden.
My late father used to say, “Them that has, gets!”
145 million already donated and 2 billion pledge are the exact amount more than this author is whining about...
Is there some wealth tothing amount you are suppose give.
Pass the offering basket
If I had his money, I would keep every last red cent for meself. Muahahaha.
His .0906% is .0906% more than I give. I dont send a dime to charities of any sort. Never have, never will. Not as long as the government confiscates a significant portion of my income.
most taxes go to charity welfare, food, services to illegals, homeless,
abortions here and in other countries.
