North Carolina 3-year-old Casey Hathaway says he hung out with a bear after he vanished

The North Carolina 3-year-old who vanished from his grandmother’s backyard earlier this week said he spent his two days in the woods with a friendly bear.

Casey Lynn Hathaway was found alive just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, bringing an emergency two-day search for the missing toddler to a close. Rescue workers were following up on a tip about a crying child when they discovered Casey about 40 or 50 yards into a wooded area, tangled up in some brush and calling out for his mother.

The boy had been missing since Tuesday, when he didn’t come inside with the other children he’d been playing with at his grandmothers house in Enrul, located about 100 miles southeast of Raleigh.

Casey’s aunt, Breanna Hathaway in a Facebook post said her nephew was “healthy, smiling and talking” following his return late Thursday.

“He said he hung out with a bear for two days,” she wrote. “God sent him a friend to keep him safe. God is a good God. Miracles do happen.”

my guess is that it was a juvenile bear about two-three years old that was not hungry. my experience with bears when I lived in Alaska was that the bears that age tend to still wana play like cubs and are very curies. anything older or hungry and I don’t think the kid would be alive. kid is lucky that the bear did not use him as a toy....A guardian angel was definitely working overtime for two days.

“I was on such a search once which was the unorganized type. What a joke.”

I was on one in 68’. Guy led us to the bodies but said he wasn’t the killer. They were two children buried out in the middle of nowhere but he had nothing to do with it. If I had been alone.....

That’s a good idea. Any good crime scene lab could find out.

Yes, the pope is the head of the Church, but there are good popes and bad popes, just as there are good presidents and bad presidents.

Moreover, it is not the teaching of the Church that the pope is, generally speaking, infallible. Only on those vanishingly rare occasions when he was speaking ex cathedra. That was was twice in the last couple hundred years.

Even in these cases, he can't contradict what other popes have definitively taught, going back to Peter and the Apostles. He hasn't the authority.

So Pope Francis' whack-a-doodle opinion on anything you care to name, -- diplomacy, economics, climatology and even his theological opinions---- are not received as dogma.

So in terms of actual dogma, we're protected from goofball opinions: even the pope's.

I'm grateful you gave me the opportunity to clear that up.

You are making the elementary error of equating the prayer of intercession with the prayer of adoration.

Only God is adored.

Only. God. Is. Adored.

ONLY GOD.

As we pray in every Catholic sanctuary all over the world over the last 2000 years:

Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you,
we bless you,
we adore you,
we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father,
have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Catholic 7-year-olds have this memorized. It is that basic.

All the rest is intercessory.

I remain astounded at people who spout falsehoods about the Catholic Church who have no idea what they're talking about.

And besides, this is an unfortunate thread hijack. The thread is about a 3 year old lost boy who was found, thanks be to God. It's not about slamming otheer people for intercessory prayer.

The only connection to intercessory prayer, is that a whole lotta people, I'm sure, Catholics and Protestants and Evangelicals and Orthodox and what have-you, Brothers and Sister in Christ, undoubtedly interceded for the little boy. I know I did. Perhaps you, too.

It's always better to engage in prayer, than to engage in misinformed calumny.

I believe God can provide a wild creature to save a three year old lost in the woods

Why bitter Freepers can’t accept that’ is discouraging isn’t it

Eastern North Carolina is home to the largest black bears on the planet, with some reaching upwards of 800 lbs. As recently as 2014 a teen on his first hunt was surprised by a 640 lb. black bear, it was his first kill. The bear population has skyrocketed in recent decades, it's not at all uncommon to see them to the point that there are caution signs for bear crossings as you'd see for deer in other parts of the country.

Nearby New Bern, settled by Swiss in 1710, has a really strikingly medieval-looking town flag, derived from their namesake, Bern Switzerland. "Bern" means bear. These flags as well as banners and bear statues are all over town. The high school mascot is, of course, the Bears.

There is no intercessor but Christ.

There’s a list of stuff the Vatican teaches, and none of it is right. That prayer is fine though. Jesus is my everything. He’s the one who died and rose. He’s the one that sacrificed himself for mankind.

St. Paul tells us at least dozen times to ray for each other. This is intercecession. He also tells us we are members of one Body-- Christ's --- so we are interceding for each other in Christ.

Paul even says "I live--- yet not but Christ lives in me." That is the only way such prayer

You may have noticed the prayer threads here at Free Republic. That's what they're all about: intercession. Permit me to add: please pray for me. Tagline.
