Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown addressed his past extramarital relationship with U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris in his weekly column Saturday, saying he may have boosted the presidential hopeful's career.
"Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago," Brown wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle.
"Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was [California] Assembly speaker. And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco."
Brown, 84, pointed out that he also helped the careers of other prominent California Democrats, such as U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
"The difference is that Harris is the only one who, after I helped her, sent word that I would be indicted if I 'so much as jaywalked' while she was D.A., Brown wrote. "That's politics for ya."
Brown appointed Harris -- about 30 years younger than Brown and just a few years out of law school to two well-paid state commission assignments on the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and the California Medical Assistance Commission, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
"Whether you agree or disagree with the system, I did the work," Harris said in a 2003 interview with SF Weekly. "I brought a level of life knowledge and common sense to the jobs."
The former mayor also connected Harris with campaign donors, which helped her outraise her opponent for San Francisco district attorney, Business Insider reported. Brown's involvement in her election raised questions as to how Harris would remain impartial, given his enormous political clout.

we have had whores in the wh before. This is a question of constitutionality. What do I expect? The republicans to stand on their hind legs and conservative media to make an issue of it and push court cases and secretaries of state to reject her ballot application. If 3-5 states did that she will not be nominated.
Since you have given up I expect nothing form you.
Brilliant. Did you build that meme or find it somewhere? I’ve been calling her the SFT for many weeks now.
If anyone rats willie out, his thug pals from the chinese triad of SF will have them "swimming with the fishes" in the SF Bay.
It's my gift to you for reminding me of a time before my beautiful state was occupied territory.

VERY well-done. I shall credit “Bagster on FreeRepublic.com” when I share it.
I suppose Willie still does have enough clout to ‘ask for a favor’ every so often. I live across the bridge from San Francisco. I recall some of his years in Sacramento. I didn’t like him because he was openly racist, speaking about ‘White Boys’ opposing his budget proposals and the like. I did have some respect for how he got his way.
Willie is wily. He was the picture of confrontation and self confidence back then, with his Issac Hayes bald head and thousand dollar three piece suits, and his ability to use legalese for his own advantage. It was like watching him play Chess. I was glad when he faded into the political past, because he was quite liberal.
Nowadays though, Willie, like his contemporary, Dianne Feinstein, would be considered far to Centerist.
Well, you are now immortalized in the Fans of Best of the Web Today group on FB.
Yay me!

Not that term limits did California any good in the long run, which is why I dont really get excited about it at the national level.
After the term limits rule bumped Willie Brown out of the Assembly Speaker position, Willie pulled a fast one by putting in his freshman buddy Brian Setencich as Assembly Speaker until Setencich was bumped out some months later. After becoming mayor, he appointed Brian as special assistant to the 911 Emergency Communications Department. This is where I was working, and Brian ran errands for me. Willie had a history of dishing out jobs for friends for them to do his dirty work.
THERE’S a man with no pride
