At some point you should realize that the Wall to Trump was just a negotiating point.
Like in 'Art of the Deal' he found out what the base actually wanted and made a bid on it because no one else would.

Mostly the Senate. The wall was not just a negotiating point for Trump, although he gave it less priority than he should have. His base wanted jobs (regulations, trade etc) and the wall. The jobs worked out. The wall has not so far.
What I think happen here is Mitch McConnell threaten the president by reading the riot act to Mike Pence last night at a meeting also 7 Republicans made known they would be voting with the Leftist I would like to know what ezakely it is that the president can do you people know that nancy peiosi is never going to give one inch on the wall the scrum bag republicans are no help Mr Trump did all he could do he reopened the goverment and gave the democrats 3 more weeks to show there anti American strips then he will have no other choice but declare a national emergency he did not want to go this route because the next leftist President will declare emergency over and have wall tore down with a gushing fake news media to report
Did he really “cave” or did he just give the other side enough rope to hang themselves? With the shutdown suspended, Trump now gets to deliver his State of the Union address, meeting his own condition.
